View Full Version : Less -EV

My thanks to someone here for a post a while back.

I was in my 10/20 game last night and started to play poorly, but still had some game in me. I got out of the game and spent an hour playing PaiGow-Poker ($10 a hand). Lost a little and left happy.

Good idea. It's a -EV game, but less -EV than playing 10/20 poorly.

I don't remember what the exact EV of pai gow is, but I recall it's not very bad at all.

I like to play craps occasionally, even tho that's -EV. I stick to pass and come with double odds, usually playing at the cheapo casinos where it's $1 with $2 odds. Great way to have a blast, have some drinks, and generally be loud and obnoxious in an atmostphere where that is acceptable. And the actual degree of -EV is miniscule in a small craps game.

In a similar fashion, I occasionally go to the horsetrack and bet the horses. It's a ton of fun, and I rarely spend more than $50 or so, and occasionally get a nice "rebate."

Yeah, when I play craps I just play don't pass/don't come with sngle or double odds and no more than 2 numbers working at a time, but the cheapest tables I can find are $10 minimum. Anyhow, it's -EV but the house only has a 0.6% edge.

Right. Assuming you put up double odds every time. I play occasionally in vegas. Down at the nickle nick's area and such you can sometimes find the cheapie tables. I will occasionally play at a $5 table, or perhaps I should say rarely. Craps is a fun way to gamble with a non-poker player who's just out to have a good time and not lose too much $$.
