2-4 Party. MP with AK. EP raises, I 3-bet, he caps. No read yet. We go heads up. Flop comes K-J-8 suits unimportant.

He bets, I call.

Turn is Q. He bets, I call.

River is another Jack. He bets, I call.

Looks good to me. I hope he was just aggressive with his own AK and you got to chop.

I don't know if I'm wrong in this judgement here, but would anyone else have considered raising the flop with the top pair with top kicker, and then if re-raised, call it down if the board's not too scary?

You played it right. There's no point in raising postflop, generally speaking, since his preflop cap makes it likely that he has AA/KK/AK and he will probably three-bet a flop raise by you with AK, so you're not getting any information that will allow you to lay your hand down before showdown.

Nothing else you could do differently. At best you chop the pot though against a standard opponent.

Straight out of HEPFAP. Let him keep betting a worse hand, or, if I'm behind, I'm just putting more money in, and that's no good. So I chose to call him down and he showed 99. I win. Yay.
