Hello. I'm a relatively new Texas Hold'em player, and I'm trying to devise a curriculum for myself to learn to play well. I'm planning to read quality how-to books, practice strategies on a computer and then graduate to low-limit internet casino and live casino play. As I feel stronger I plan to increase my limits then graduate to no-limit play.

Here's what I have so far by way of early materials:

Books
-----
Sklansky's "The Theory of Poker"
Sklansky/Malmuth's "Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players"
Caro's "Book of Poker Tells"

Software
--------
Wilson's Turbo Texas Hold'em

Publications/Websites
---------------------
www.twoplustwo.com (http://www.twoplustwo.com)
www.cardplayer.com (http://www.cardplayer.com)

What else do you folks recommend perusing? I'm especially interested in other books and software I don't have listed.

Also, what are your thoughts on how to best develop as a beginning player? (I really wish there was a software program that would allow you to practice the application of Sklansky/Malmuth tactics.)

Thanks!

Hi Wildcatter,

Start with Winning Low Limit Holdem by Lee Jones (i haven't read it but a lot of people recommend it), then try Holdem Poker by D.Sklansky (read this one and definitly recommend it). And then you can reread the books you listed. As for NL i suggest Pot-limit & No-limit poker by Ciaffone & Reuben. After that you could try Brunsons Super System and/or Championship No-limit & Pot-limit Holdem by Cloutier & McEvoy. And regarding the software you could try Poki's Poker Academy or Acespade's Tournament package. For more suggestions you should search this forum cause there are many more people who have had nearly the same questions as you.
