I'm playing at the Borgota 6-12 Hold'em and i haven't played one hand for at least an hour, I may have limped once near late position and folded on the flop.

i open raise with QQ after an hour and a half of folding and get called cold by 4 limpers the SB and the BB??

Why do people call??
Don't they realize that I haven't played a hand in such a long time??
Why compels them to give me action?
Do they just not care???

It mind boggling??

What makes them play??

What makes them play??

They like their cards.

I folded virtually every hand for an hour or two one night then raised UTG. The guy to my left said, outloud, "Wow, you haven't played a hand all night!" Then he called, and so did three or four others. I still laugh about that one.

The vast majority of players look at their cards, decide if they are 'good' or 'bad' then put however many chips are necessary into the pot so they can see the flop without any more thought, and thank god for that.

" open raise with QQ after an hour and a half of folding and get called cold by 4 limpers the SB and the BB??"

Awesome!

"Why do people call?? "

Because they came to play and have fun, folding isn't fun.

"Don't they realize that I haven't played a hand in such a long time??"

They have hands they like. What you have is irrelevant.

"Why compels them to give me action?"

They might win. Its what they came to do.

"Do they just not care???"

Not everyone plays for the same reasons you do. It never ceases to amaze me how people around here don't understand this simple fact.

"It mind boggling??"

No it isn't, its pretty simple really.

"What makes them play??"

They came to play and have fun. A much better question is why does it seem to irritate you so much?

You can't win if you don't call.

So?

You can't win if you don't call. Plus it's really fun to beat the rock. Especially w/ crappy cards.

About two small bets before the flop? Nah, not really.

I find it quite unsurprising that people go out to do some gambling and then gamble. Anything other than that would be mind boggling.

Mikey,
If you look at my reply to the post about Mike Caro's book of tells, you'll get the basic answer to all your questions.
Why do people call?? Because they are focusing on their own cards.
Don't they realize that I haven't played a hand in such a long time?? No, because they are focusing on their own cards.
Why compels them to give me action? Ditto.
Do they just not care??? They care, but not enough to take the "unnatural" action of thinking about you rather than themselves.
Regards,
Al

Almost every time I sit down I know seven to eight people at the table by first name. I know what they play and how they play. I also know that at least four of them are either gambling addicts in training or have serious gambling problems.

One session they actually have a bankroll. The next time all they have is a minimum buy in. This may not hold true in Vegas, CA Cardrooms, or AC, but in my experience small card rooms in Indian' Casinos seem to have more than their fair share of poker players who are addicted to the action.

I think they call because they can't not call. jmo

I suspect that may be one of the few things that holds true in any cardroom.

Nice table selection Mikey! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

That's amazing, 6 callers w/QQ, after folding for an hour, what a great table! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

LOL - I seem to have that problem when I'm playing ON-LINE! I swear some days my cards are face up for the rest of the table to see.

If it was live, I'd definately be looking at myself for tells, but on-line?

Am I clicking the button too aggressively? /images/graemlins/ooo.gif

I mean honestly its a modern marvel.

It seems that when I have AA, and raise they all fold too on online, but granted that doesn't happen all the time.

The worst is this one, I flop a set of 6's on a raggedy board, I bet and my opponnent folds??

I'm like.... 109% of time almost everyone and their mother will call for one flop bet.....but this guy just mucks his hand.

I suppose you find the millions of people playing craps, blackjack, slot machines, the lottery, let it ride, caribbean stud, and bingo "mind boggling" also?

Well, there's a simple explanation for this. It's just that you remember these times much more than all the other times they did fold for one bet. The times you raise w/ AK, bet the flop, and they fold don't stand out. But all the times they call you down all the way w/ 92o bottom pair, those stand out. And the times like this they fold when you have a set? Those really stand out. That's all.

Having said that, after an hour of everyone calling all the way to the river and pumping every draw, there's nothing more frustrating than flopping a monstrous hand and having everyone fold.

Or, in the same theme, every hand is getting capped pre-flop by a couple of maniacs and calling stations. Then you get AA in the big blind and it's folded to you for the first time in an hour. Ugh.

NL $25, dealt aces, I make a pot-raise from the SB, 2 callers, I flop quads. I check, and first one, then the other goes all in. I reluctantly call.

NL $25, dealt kings UTG. I open-raise 3. My left-hand opponent raises to 6, everyone folds to me. I raise to 15 and he goes all-in. I call and he flops a flush with K3s. I pay him off.

Who knows what shadows lurk in the hearts of men?

Actually, I do. I mean it's fun for a while, but once you figure out that you really have no chance to win over the long haul, what keeps 'em going back?

I guess most people never make that realization.

The really mindboggling thing here is that you can't find a hand to play this lineup for a whole hour????
