most of us know that a 4 flush draw is 1.8/1 on the flop and 4/1 on the turn and an OESD is 2.2/1 and then 5/1....what about other odds such as a two pair draw, a flopped set draw when 3 suited cards flop, and a special situations such as having K /images/graemlins/heart.gif9 /images/graemlins/heart.gif with a flop of K /images/graemlins/club.gif8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif7 /images/graemlins/heart.gif when you know your 9 kicker is beaten but can still catch a runner/runner? Can anyone think of a quick way to figure out odds like that, or think of any other situations that you would need to know about?

The key number after the flop is C(47,2)= 1081. If you are
relatively quick at calculations, you can work them out on
an ad hoc basis but some useful numbers for combinations are
45 for a backdoor flush and 16, 32 or 48 for backdoor
straights (if there is some duplication, the last numbers
will be 15, 30 and 45).

The odds aren't usually that important. What is important
is how to play the hand in question and that is why 2+2 is
an excellent forum to discuss the play of the hands. Poker
also isn't just playing cards, but who you are playing
against. Admittedly, with so many newbies online, it's hard
to ascertain the correct play in many of the multiway pots,
especially if you don't flop too much!
