I'm from Vancouver but have been living most of my life in Asia. I'm presently toying with the idea of moving back to BC. I'd really appreciate an overview of the poker scene in Vancouver. Any insights, info, minute details etc would have to be worth, well, at least a beer or two to any kind soul who has the time or inclination to respond.

I have recently moved back from California and obviously it was not for the poker.

Here is what I know:

These are all Holdem, no other games in town of any size.

Great Canadian - Holiday Inn Vancouver

a daily 10-20 game with from 1 to as many as 4 or 5 tables at the busiest times. Lately it has been slow to start at midday rather then 10am.

Non Smoking, games much discussed here see archive for Skp's postings for one.

Great Canadian Coq. has a 6-12 game as many as 4 tables.

There are some semi private 15-30 games that goes some evenings in Vancouver. Smoking, dubious legality but maybe ok, others may be able to help you find those.

Rumour that a new room with possibly 15-30 will open at the riverboat near Burnaby/NewWest soon.

Several places with 4-8.

Seattle 4 hour drive, not that great, try Muckleshoot for 10-20 or 20 -40.

Internet Poker?

I think David has covered the local poker scene pretty thoroughly although I think there is a 5/10 stud game at the Great Canadian Casino downtown (Renaissance Hotel).

The Holiday inn refuses to spread a game bigger than 10-20 even though several players have expressed an interest. The customer is never right according to these guys. In any event, 10-20 is the biggest legal game you'll find. There are some bigger games ready to be busted anyday now by the boys in blue.
