View Full Version : SITE BY SITE -- MATTER OF STYLE???

I learned on Paradise -- and have never been afraid of playing there.

I learned to win at UB eventually...and over the last few weeks, had to relearn how to do this here.

I have never felt comfortable at Party or any of the skins. I feel like I have zero control over anything...it is just flip flip flip -- the chips move. Don't bother trying to out play / out think anyone -- just play good cards...I think this is too boring for me.

Stars -- I have always loved the software, hated the site. I won there when I was 1st learning, but as of my last visit, a year ago, I just didn't feel right about it.

Total, True, and a few others -- easy to destroy -- maybe just good runs of cards, but highly profitable for me. They seem to play like Party, but for some reason, I feel much more comfortable there. Maybe the slower play fits my personality better?

Anyone else find there are sites that the play seem to run against the style?

I have my biggest winnings on UB nest on stars. I suck on Party but keep trying to adjust my play because I believe if you learn to play there the winnings are better. For right now I will build my bankroll on UB so I can take the swings on Party.

I have had alot of success on Party. I've had decent success on Paradise (first site I played, and I feel comfortable there!). I've played off several bonuses on UB, and I've rarely cashed out more than I deposited! I haven't yet learned to win on UB.
----
I've also played a few others recently, and I agree it's a matter of style, or taste.
.
Some of the visuals are just more pleasing to the eye. Where the buttons are, what kind of prompts they use when it's your turn.... many things combine to make you either comfortable, or uncomfortable.
.
But I think as players, we adapt fairly easily. So if there is a compelling reason to play at a particular site, I think it could soon become comfortable.
.
I've recently been trying out several new (to me) sites, and I try to begin with the attitude that there will be problems, growing pains. Just accept them, handle them, and play good cards!
.

Cheers.

i learned to play on party and the skins and do very well there. cant win consistantly at ub to save my life. lost 250$ there last week while trying to clear a 100$ bonus. luckily i won 200-300$ at the skins during that same time period.

I'll pony up TruePoker as my favorite. Seems to be just the right mix of fish and semi-competent players to make money at.

Party has been mixed results as I have a hard time dealing with a full table of fish

UB has been tough because the play has been tighter.

True falls somewhere in the middle.

ever tried playing tournaments seriously? it sounds like your ability to beat a tighter game would help you out there.

I have profited at pacific, UB and intercasino; however, I lose consistently (in fact I have never won) at Party. Any suggestions?

I lose everywhere. But I'm independently wealthy, so it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the write-up, Sarge.

Our site is designed to be friendly to the "social" player. We offer the amenities such as on-table chat, 3D graphics and animation, audio comments, et cetera which mimic the non-monetary aspects of poker play. At the same time, we match or exceed other sites' poker offerings.

We are always interested in improving our offerings, so feel free to send in feedback in the form of criticism, as well as projects you might like to see at your ideal site.
(We are still adapting a 2D offering for multitable play, we have not forgotten those requests.)

Started playing seriously at Paradise. Great software and beatable games. I switched to Party in July because of the aquarium effect but was still beating Paradise too until I took my last money out in September. I plan to redeposit at Paradise to try out their new multis.

Party is my ring game home now while Stars is my touney and sng home. I will give Paradise a crack again though. Stars and Paradise are so much better softwarewise than Party or the lessor imitators. They are much more enjoyable to play at which to me at least is important.

I have tried Prima and WSEX and really dislike both (very similar) software programs and the game selection is crap so I won't go there. I downloaded True once and played two play money hands before deleting it from my computer. Definitely not the software program for my tastes. I guess I should try UB although all the feedback seems that the games arent so great?

I look for large well established sites with great software programs and decent game selection (Stars and Paradise) or the biggest kid on the block with all the fish (Party/Empire) despite the frustrations involved with bad (but better than Prima/wsex) software and seemingly poor service.

In my heart of hearts I really believe that Paradise and Stars will overtake Party sometime. Party is just so bad at everything but marketing they have to crash and burn at some point.

Here's my stupid opinions based on my various bonus whorings/reloads from June until December (I've retired from it now), at $5/$10 and $10/$20:

Party et al - always the most consistently fishy of course but you may occasionally have to table hop a bit as sometimes you'll bump into a toughish one. Obviously not a problem to do that, though. Games tend to break pretty fast for some reason. My results there were good.

UB - sucky. Many tight players and only the rare fish everyone else tries to isolate. I posted a pic a while back of 6 consecutive everyone-folds-to-the-SB-who-folds. My results here were OK, small profits, mostly from the 5/10 stud/8 which was OK some of the time.

Paradise - sucky. See UB. It amazed me that a year after I left the site I come back and see the same players in the same games. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif I virtually broke even here except for a quick session of $20/$40 where I killed them with my massive card-catching skills.

Stars - not bad. There's often several maniacs who are looking for someone to give chips to and some passive calling stations. The 10/20 here was certainly a better game to me than party's 10/20 (but I didn't play a lot of that). My results in the ring games on stars have been excellent; I think the toughness of this site is overrated.

Pokerroom - some very poor play in ring games but some passable players in the shorthanded tables. I caught a few cards (like a one outer for a huge pot /images/graemlins/wink.gif) and did very well in the 5/10 there which was full of idiots. I didn't play higher. Of course, you may attribute my good results to the fact it takes forever to clear the bonus there...

WSEX - I only played there for a day because I had problems with their software, but the games sucked.

Truepoker - VERY good ring games at 5/10 and 10/20. I made a ridiculous amount of money here clearing the initial bonus and the recent reload (which I'm sure TPCEO is thrilled about..). The players are stupidly passive even at 10/20, and whats even weirder is they'll play short in both games. Maybe the games are full of awful props, I dunno. I may actually come back and play there "for real", but I can't drag myself away from party's 15/30 for now.

I just started to play sit-in-goes, and, though I once said that tourneys are not poker, I LOVE THEM. They are fun and have put a spark back in my game! There is something great about BUSTING a fish out, and knowing that they cannot return to get lucky...least not this tourney.... I guess that is what was missing from my poker as of late. The feel of victory. Sure, I was winning, but it just seemed boring. Tourneys have changed that. They are just a blast!
