Playing 5/10 FLHE on Grand Bay. I am not in the hand, but a mid position player calls all the way and catches runner runner hearts, turns over Q5 of hearts and proudly claims "Granny Mae".....

I told him that it had to be Q5 of spades, and he not so politely told me that I was full of it.

I told him to check the Tournament Forum here for verification, and he informed me that he was a long time poster here, and if I didn't know who he was that I didn't know what I was talking about.

His ID is ShockAndAww with a hometown of Marseilles...

Does anyone know this guy?

I would appreciate it if my fellow posters would set this idiot straight....

Don't avoid the issue - you misrepresented the Granny Mae hand. I take it you understand that it is Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif 5 /images/graemlins/spade.gif now?

Granny would be most disappointed.

Okay, I give.

I know the hand is now Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif5 /images/graemlins/spade.gif and I have searched but can't seem to find the origin of the term there. I know who Granny Mae is in fact have emailed her once or twice in the past but this is a riot and would love ot hear the story... Maybe someone has saved a link to the post that started this whole thing...?

Glad to see that you've come out of your hole.....I didn't get a hand history, but of course we all know that calling in mid position with Q5 of hearts is the play of a seasoned expert.......

...and yes, there were runner, runner hearts that made your flush.

Where is your response to the "Granny Mae" being spades only?

You're a pathetic excuse of a human being....rofl!!

There was a thread last week I believe, check it out:

Granny - an explanation (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=inet&Number=443558&Forum=A ll_Forums&Words=granny%20mae%20&Match=Entire%20Phr ase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=2weeks&Main=442993&S earch=true#Post443558)

However... this may not be the definitive answer, I believe more detective work is required. Mike Haven might be your man - the guy is always my first port of call when it comes to Zoo history. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Simon

PS Sorry Mike - more work for you /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I think that at this stage in poker evolution as long as we all know that the Q/images/graemlins/spade.gif5/images/graemlins/spade.gif is the GrannyMae and that for whatever reason it works in mysterious ways for true believers in its near invincibility, then whatever fables grow up around it as time passes are good enough for me.

Fair enough Mike, but I have managed to dredge up some titbits from the archives and came up with your announcement of the Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif 5 /images/graemlins/spade.gif "GrannyMae"

A tribute to GrannyMae (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=inet&Number=360913&Forum=A ll_Forums&Words=granny%20mae&Match=Entire%20Phrase &Searchpage=1&Limit=200&Old=allposts&Main=360447&S earch=true#Post360913)

It's funny, over the past few weeks/months, I've come to noting to myself when I see Q5 of various combinations. I came up with:

Q /images/graemlins/spade.gif 5x - Half-Granny (It doesn't work if it's Qx 5 /images/graemlins/spade.gif, don't ask me why)

Q5s, not Spades - False Granny. Could call it a Big Bad Wolf, because it's a bad hand disguised as a Granny.

Ive started to call the A4 hand, where the 4 is behind the ace, "the fooler" because it looks like pocket rockets at first glance. Maybe this will catch on. /images/graemlins/smirk.gif
