View Full Version : Evolution of a 2+2er

03-21-2002, 02:31 AM
1. "Wow, this forum is awesome! Everyone talking poker and stuff. I'll post some hands and see what people think."

2. "Screw these guys. They think they know everything. Well how come I'm winning so much then? Hunh? Position shmosition!"

3. "Damn these guys are all pessimists. I say if you can't run over a 6-12 game while half-asleep, you're a total monkey, IMHO."

4. "Ok, maybe I need to be open to new ideas."

5. "Variance is a bitch. This game is practically all luck. I'm going to make a post titled: 'luck vs. skill'."

6. "I want to hear from the forum experts about all the considerations that come into play when defending the big blind against an open-raiser in the cutoff when you hold A3o, J9s, and 44."

7. "I found this news group about poker but all they do is either fight or bitch about how much they hate 2+2. I don't get it."

8. "I'll never fold on the river again."

9. "I need to stop paying off the river bets."

10. "I'll never fold on the river again."

11. "That Tommy Angelo character sure has some strange ideas about how to play poker."

12. "What is this no-limit stuff? Mason says in Poker Essays Vol II, which I've read 14 times, that it's a piece of cake. You simply bet enough so they can't call you on a draw. How hard is that?"

13. "The chances that I'll draw out plus the chances that he's bluffing plus the chances that he'll fold a better hand add up 122%, so I should raise in this spot."

14. "I wonder if Paradise Poker really is owned by the mafia. You never know."

15. "Look at this post! A pre-flop question? Gimme a break. If you haven't figured out preflop by now, forget it."

16. "Jesus Christ, I just don't have the patience to read through yet another post on how to play AK after you miss the flop in a three-way pot in middle position."

17. "You know, that Tommy Angelo character is starting to make sense."

18. "Look, play whatever hand you want, however you want, in any position you want. I really don't care. You'll either figure it out or you won't."

19. "I'll never talk strategy or specifics with anyone again as long as I live."

20. "I'm going to post this hand from last night cause it's so damn funny what happened. These guys will get a kick out of it."

21. "awww screw it i think ill just go fishin in mopntana and throw away my worthliss spell chekcer besides punctuation is for suckers, i dont have the time or inclination; to discuss poker anymore"

Don't they call you anyway? And if they do, What then?

19. "I'll never talk strategy or specifics with anyone again as long as I live."

I enjoyed your post.

Looking forward to #22.

Good post for a good laugh. Keep it coming!

03-21-2002, 11:50 AM
Damn I've got a long way to go. I just reached number 4. You need to put time estimates before each one. How long before I go fishing??

03-21-2002, 04:12 PM
23. You didn't do the math. I will let others elaborate.

03-21-2002, 04:53 PM
My evolution went more like:

1.Small stakes - lets figure out some basics. Also get flamed for preflop hand selection.

2.General - so does a flush beat a full house? no? Good to know!

3.General Theory - "E....V? Wasn't that a Spielberg movie in the 1980s?"

4.Middle stakes - Tommy is God. All worship at the Temple of Divine Angelo!

Great concept and delivery, Nate! Number five here, I got to the last three words and lost it:

5. "Variance is a bitch. This game is practically all luck. I'm going to make a post titled: 'luck vs. skill'."

As to this one ...

6. "I want to hear from the forum experts about all the considerations that come into play when defending the big blind against an open-raiser in the cutoff when you hold A3o, J9s, and 44."

... the thing that gets me is the notquitedeadhorse: how to play AJ and KQ under the gun. I engaged that question, again, right after coming to 2+2. Even did controlled experiments at the table. This is one question where I know that I do now for sure have exactly the right answer. And no, the answer is not: it depends. It is: it doesn't matter.

Well, I take that back. Your answer is better:

18. "Look, play whatever hand you want, however you want, in any position you want. I really don't care. You'll either figure it out or you won't."

::: still giggling :::

My next favorite highlight:

------------------------------

8. "I'll never fold on the river again."

9. "I need to stop paying off the river bets."

10. "I'll never fold on the river again."

-----------------------------------------

Too good. Please keep making children.

they hate 2+2. I don't get it."

newbie discovers RGP. I never gave a shit as the format was so irritating I basically read it once and gave up on it forever.

8. "I'll never fold on the river again."

Look for posts in the archives by myself entitled "mathematical catastrophe"

11. "That Tommy Angelo character sure has some strange ideas about how to play poker."

Those who post different ideas about poker often stimulate your brain, even those who intentionally play devil's advocate from time to time (I am thinking of you, Vince).

12. "What is this no-limit stuff? Mason says in Poker Essays Vol II, which I've read 14 times,

that it's a piece of cake. You simply bet enough so they can't call you on a draw. How hard is

that?"

Against rank amateurs, this is exactly correct. Against better players, NL is a thinking game where mathematics is not much of a consideration. I know in limit I am always thinking of odds, but in NL I am almost never thinking of anything except my assessment of my opponent.

13. "The chances that I'll draw out plus the chances that he's bluffing plus the chances that he'll fold a better hand add up 122%, so I should raise in this spot."

Occasionally, there is just too much to consider and you should just play by the seat of your pants, as if you have to think about it THAT HARD then the decision is probably close enough to where it doesn't matter much which way you go....

14. "I wonder if Paradise Poker really is owned by the mafia. You never know."

Conspiracy theories ain't just for the government anymore.

15. "Look at this post! A pre-flop question? Gimme a break. If you haven't figured out

preflop by now, forget it."

Sometimes there is so much emphasis on pre-flop play you wonder if there are any other rounds in the game.

17. "You know, that Tommy Angelo character is starting to make sense."

You're starting to really think about the game when someone like Tommy gets you thinking. Tommy doesn't just look at the obvious, he gets into the nitty gritty, even the occasional point that that may never actually make you a full dollar over the course of a lifetime. But you still gotta consider such things, just in case you need bus fare to get to circus-circus because they're having a special on the nickel slots.

18. "Look, play whatever hand you want, however you want, in any position you want. I really don't care. You'll either figure it out or you won't."

When you get sick of answering the same old questions that you were asking a year or two ago.

19. "I'll never talk strategy or specifics with anyone again as long as I live."

You have received the answer "it depends" for the one millionth time.

20. "I'm going to post this hand from last night cause it's so damn funny what happened. These

guys will get a kick out of it."

You are starting to really "get it" when you realize that sometimes having fun is more important than eeking every last tenth of a cent out of a clueless tourist.

21. "awww screw it i think ill just go fishin in mntana and throw away my worthliss spell chekcer besides punctuation is for suckers, i dont have the time or inclination; to discuss poker anymore"

This is one of the truer and funnier threads ever posted.

Funny stuff Clarkmeister, thanks for bringing it back up.

There was a post on the mid to high stakes forum that you probably remember. It was posted by someone, sometime. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif It was a little fantasy about what many of the regular posters would do on the river with a second nut hand. It included Tommy making it 4 or 5 bets, then folding to a reraise and skp going 19 bets before he realized he didn't have the nuts. I think that was the funniest post I've ever read on here. You haven't run across that one in your archival travels, have you?

I tried looking briefly but without remembering who posted it I didn't have much luck.

The thread is in Medium Stakes and is entitled "Why I love these forums"

I'd drag it up to the top, but I don't want to start another international incident. /forums/images/icons/smirk.gif

I'll do it then. I haven't been part of an international incident since... 3 hours ago at the casino.

Thanks, sounds like your project is still going extremely well. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
