I'm looking to buy a set of poker chips, I want something decent but I can't see myself spending over $200 for them. How do these look? They're 11.5g which must be good? I don't know, maybe someone can give me a run down on what to look for in a good quality chip and if my budget of $200 is reasonable. Thanks guys.

My friend has this set, and they are pretty good chips for the price, they are heavy, but I don't think they are real clay. They are some kind of plastic with a metal insert, but for around $100 they are a good value. For real clay chips you are looking at more $$$, probably at least $.50-$.90 per chip, but they are nice. Call up some places like chipco.com or pokerchips.com and ask them to send you a free sample. I just bought a 400 chip set from pokerchips.com; they sell clay chips and you can customize them, I spent about $280 and got a good case with it. The chips are cool, the only thing is that it took about 2 months to get them.

I bought a set of the ones below of ebay a few months ago. They are nice, not casino quality, but definitely good enough for the clowns I play with. They have a clay core with a hard plastic finish. They are plenty heavy at 11.5 grams. You can definitely tell the difference between these and real chips. But I was in the market to only spend $100 or so and not the $250+ for a set of 1st class chips.

Good luck.

I have a couple of buddies who have the same set in your link...I think they are great, and worth the ~$150 it will cost. I will probably pick up a set myself after the New Year.

I got my for $99 delivered! 500 of these chips with the Oak Case. Use www.autionsniper.com (http://www.autionsniper.com) and 'steal' the auction at 3AM while you sleep. There are constant actions for these type of chips everyday. The auctions that end in the wee-hours of the morning are the lowest.

Sign up for auction sniper, and you'll get a killer deal if you have the patience. It only to me 3 or four days and several snipe-settings to get one at $87 w/$13 delivery.

Tell auction sniper that JoeTall sent you. Enjoy it, it words really well and 'snipes' are only 25 cents.

Peace,
JT

Not to spam, I have no affiliation what so ever with this site but i bought all my chips at http://5stardeal.com/
I found them to be cheaper than anyone. I've ordered twice from them and everything was at my door within days.

I got that same exact set on ebay (for about $200) a year ago.

Very good set but the very funny thing is that the cards are marked in the card decks and have random ink dots on them.

Mine from Ebay are fine. It just takes a while to get a good price. ONe way to speed this up is to buy good CHIPS and then buy the case later. the reason for most of the differentation inprice is the oak case and aluminum cases.

Does anyone have any experience with the two types of cases? Is oak worth the price? Does aluminum look more shiek?

I too have bought three 500 count chip sets off of Ebay through 5stardeal. I've been very happy with the chips even though I only got the 9 gram clay chips. You get to choose your own colors, and they are delivered in less than 5 business days. The trick is to search for "poker chips" on Ebay, and then watch for sets you want that are ending in the next 30 minutes. I haven't paid more than $55 for a 500 chip set yet, and with shipping they are less than $70.

I bought mine with the oak case which had 5 removable racks, which I didn't see available for the aluminum cases. And it was mentioned in earlier posts that the chips don't fit exactly in a standard plastic casino rack.

Aluminum looks very cool. If you are going to be carrying 50 lbs worth of chips on the street and pull up to night clubs in your ferrari so all the girls go Heeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyy Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Seriously, I have aluminum case covered in vinyl and i got it cheaper because everyone wanted a silver looking one. It is exactly the same other wise. If it really matters for looks, get the aluminum one. Both will do the job though of keeping you chips undusty when its closed and sitting on your shelf.

I hate to bash a certain ebay store, but...

A word of warning. Stay away from ctideals on ebay. My wife bought a set of 500 suited 11.5 gram chips with a nice black aluminum case from this seller and the chips are complete crap. I have played with the deluxe diamond chips from 5stardeal and it's clear that the chips I got are similar, but the quality of them is much poorer. The thicknesses of the chips are off so that a stack of 10 whites is slightly taller than a stack of 10 blacks which in turn is slightly taller than a stack of 10 reds. This might be a little thing to some, but it was very annoying to me and I was not pleased. Add to that the fact that their customer service is questionable and they have a no return policy, meaning that if you get a crappy set the customer pays for return shipping and handling to replace the crappy set with another (presumably) crappy set.

5stradeal and gratefuldad5 seem to sell the same product and have a 100% money back guarantee. And it appears that if you are willing to put in the time you can get a very good price on them. Plus, as I've said before, I've played with the 5stardeal chips and they are a much higher quality chip than what I received from ctideals.

OK, enough bitching. Take it for what it's worth.

Whew. I just won an auction for 1000 chips ($165.01) from 5-star over the weekend. I'm glad I lucked out and bought them from a fairly reputable dealer, rather than the one you referenced. Thanks for your note.
