Perhaps if we all combined our money, we could buy that poker room. Ladies and gentlemen, we're clearly on the wrong side of the table.

is 3-6 the highest limit in the card room?

Is this still better than the drop ($3 + $1 at $3/6 I believe)?

Where I play $3/6 itīs pretty good: If six or more players see the flop the rake is $3 + $1, if there are less players itīs only $2 or $1 (donīt know what happens to the $1 for bad beat jackpot though).

All I have seen so far drop 10% up to $5 max, except one game that only drops a max of $3. One of the $5 games does put $1 aside for a jackpot, though, with 100% going to payouts (Aces full of jacks beaten, 30% winner, 40% loser, 10% split for rest of table, minimum 7 players, both hole cards must play).

10% to $5 and jackpot drop for 4-8

- "no flop, no drop"

- jackpot drop pays 100% to players

- some games play with a kill

- always 2+ loose players at table

- sometimes "gamblers" sit in and straddle, play hands blind, stuff like that

- free food, refreshments

- no craps table to siphon off my winnings

Although I'd rather play without a jackpot drop, this is essentially an even money proposition over the long run so the actual rake is only $4. The jackpot pays aces full of tens beaten, and some players seem to push hands they shouldn't in efforts to force a jackpot. This I like for many reasons.

Getting a free meal each time is worth an easy $5 to me, so that counteracts perhaps 2-3 hours' worth of rake compared to a standard Las Vegas $3 rake.

However, the biggest thing is that the game is HERE and I don't have to travel to play. I could drive 6-7 hours to Lousiana and pay $60 to share a crappy room witha friend for 2 nights, and spend maybe $50-100 on gas and food for the 3-day trip. All that to play a game with a $3 rake plus $1 jackpot drop, where the jackpot is skimmed 20% to "cover house costs" in administering the jackpot. Oh yeah, and play in a casino I hate.

I could get a deal to fly to Vegas and stay at Barbary Coast, whole deal for 3 nights costs me about $500 after food and incedentals if I share a room with a friend. That $500 will buy me 3 nights of play at a $3 rake table.

For every $100 I spend to travel to a $3 rake game I need to play 50 hours to realize the savings of the lower rake, which assumes I will drag 2 pots an hour that exceed the cutoff. Even that is doubtful at the lower limits, where quite a few pots I win are unfortunately still in the 10% rake range. Not to mention the fact that the travel takes lots of my time to and fro, and time is something I don't have in abundance.

Sure, I'll hit Vegas/AC a few times a year, but I work for a living and poker is simply a way to pass time. I'm even at poker for the last 12 months which ain't bad considering the free drinks and food I've enjoyed, plus the countless tokes I've squandered.
