Live 3-6-12 Game
You have the option to bet 6 or 12 on the river.

Players range from poor to terrible. Table is very loose and pretty passive except for my opponent in the hand. He is playing any two, but raising light and continually bluffing at pots.

I am on the button with 8 /images/graemlins/spade.gif 9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif

5 limpers, and I limp, BB Checks

Flop 9 /images/graemlins/club.gif 7 /images/graemlins/club.gif 6 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif

EP Bets, 2 Calls, CO (The LAP) Raises, I Cold Call, Rest Call

Turn 2 /images/graemlins/spade.gif

Checked to CO, He Bets, I Raise, Rest Fold, CO Calls

CO says "I check my two pair", I Check Behind

I'd reraise the bluffer with TP oesd on flop.

Bluffer usually implies liar to me, so on river I might bet, does he check raise bluff on river?

Was this at Coushatta? The 3-6-12 is a fun game.

I think checking behind on the river is best in this game lacking more info.

You have to watch very carefully how players handle themselvs with the big river bet. Some will bet $6 with a mediocre hand and $12 with only the nuts. Some will always check and call without the nuts, afraid of a $12 raise. Others will routinely bluff $12.

Good turn raise. I also like the river check. I'm sure his statement is untrue, but you have a hand to show down. Unfortunately, you have top pair with a poor kicker. Save the river bets when you are confident that you are ahead, or when you are the aggressor and you have zilch headsup.

I put him on a small pair or has you outkicked with a 9. If he's very tricky, he may checkraise your river bet and then you'll be in a real quandry. Your turn raise cleared the field and bought you a free showdown, use it.

It was the Isle of Capri at Lake Charles.

He does not check raise bluff on the river. When he bluffs he bets the $12. I should have added 3 Betting the flop will not thin the field. Once they have put a bet in they are seeing the turn.

He had 96 for the two pair.

I'd raise pre-flop, but other than that I think you played it just fine.

Would anyone re-raise on the flop to isolate the LAG opponent, or is the thinking that you are drawing to a staright and want their bets?

You would raise pre-flop with 5 limpers holding 8 /images/graemlins/spade.gif9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif?

To build the pot with a hand that will win more than its fair share, to trap other players in the pot if it comes to your liking, and to maybe take advantage of you preflop aggression by taking a free card later if desired.

This is one of only times to raise such a hand pre-flop for the reasons nottom states. In fact, I think that exact circumstance and hand (or pretty close, could have been 109s) are specifically mentioned in the "Late Position" section of HFAP if my memory serves.

BTW, This is not something you should everytime you have a suited connector in LP. but it is ok to do it on occasion to vary your play against more observant opponents.

Not that I am challenging the variation that is needed during the course of a session, but in such a low-limit game, do you think that you will see many hands such as A-x down to J-x suited of your suit? I normally can do this in my $8-$16 game, where I know that is less frequent. I feel is not profitable in a loose low-limit game, where you need stronger suited cards to make that play.

You will run into them on occasion, but the odds are still in your favor that bigger suited cards are not out there.

I do it every time with middle-suited connectors and five limpers to me. Why pass up odds like that? I've capped with worse in this position, though I'm still regrowing my eyebrows from the blasts I got here for it....

P.S. No point in searching to archives to find out where I play. I'll tell you. This is the 4/8 game at the Capitol Casino in Sacramento. CU there /images/graemlins/wink.gif
