While I think this is a great article, I think David did not mention two key considerations (maybe I missed them?) that I think should be taken into account when moving all-in.

1. Phil's stack size.
2. The stage of the tournament.

David did say it was early in the tournament so the second point does not come into play as much, but I wonder if this play is optimal if Phil had a large stack (say, 70k or 80k).

I also wonder if this play is optimal if there were, say, 60 players left (top 45 playing).

What does the forum think?

Since its near the end of the first day of the WSOP you have to assume that 12K is a significant portion of Phil's stack. He would have to have nearly a 100K stack to be just randomly calling 10K bets with non-top notch holdings.

I would not call it randomly calling; if your stack is quite large, you might call with a wider (or narrower) range of hands than if your stack just covered the small blind. I guess my question is if the recommendations steming from the math hold up if the stack size changes, and/or if the stage of the tournament changes.
