Over the holiday ESPN showed the '03 WSOP again.
Here's what I saw happen to Ivey at least three times, maybe four:
Limp in (or call a small raise) with a small pair.
Hit the set on a raggedy board.
Get all-in
Opponent, with something like 10's, hits his 10 on the turn.
Ivey loses half his stack. Then he rebuilds it, and it happens again.
The last time was to Moneymaker at the final table, knocking Ivey out.
I thought Ivey handled it well. Stayed pretty cool, although he couldn't resist needling one guy in the Hawaiian shirt. ( "Nice shirt.")
He's not only a good player, but in contrast to some of the whiners, grandstanders, and trash-talkers I saw playing, I like his demeanor. I'm rootin' for him next year.
