View Full Version : Pot Limit - will it fly?

My casino has announced the spreading of a new game. Previously they almost never have a pot limit or no limit game spread, except on rare occasions when enough players ask for it.

Pot Limit: Three Blinds 2,3,5 - $100 cap betting.

I believe the rake is $3 plus jackpot drop of $1.

The betting cap seems a bit strange and I expect it will frequently be reached. At this time the game is only offered one day a week - Friday. I'm curious if you Vets. think this game can last.

I agree that the $100 will be reached...and frequently

that cap will at least slow down the loss of weaker players, and thus add to the possibility that the game will last

guess it depends on size of casino---if 6 tables chances are not good. if 60 tables, then chances are more than ten times greater than at smaller one.

I like pot limit better than limit so if I was there I would be pulling for it to work out

In a limited market, he pot limit game will kill the highest limit games that are spread. In Tucson, the pot limit game (no caps, similar drop) has made it for almost a year but is faltering now on some nights. It has attracted out of town money that was not here before but much of that money leaves with Tucson money fattening the wallet. Some of the weak red chip players are now too broke to play poker and some of the stronger ones are beginning to say that they don't enjoy the fluctuations and pressure of the pot limit.

With the $100 cap, you can practically get there on the second raise.

With 2-3-5 blinds, you can traditionally open for $20. If someone opens for $20 and you get even one caller, you're going to be able to make it about $100 before the flop.

A $100 cap? It could conceivably work in a game with blinds of .50/$1 or something. With 2-3-5 blinds, it's just stupid. This is a dumb game and I think people will quickly lose interest, NOT because it's pot limit and the suckers can't win and all that, but rather because it's a boring and dumb $100-$100 limit game where you have to play really tight in the early rounds.

A REAL pot limit game, or even better, a no limit game (pot limit games bust the action players faster than no limit in my opinion) would have a decent chance of lasting (the Bay Area $1000 buy-in 10-10-20 no limit game at LCs has lasted for about 3 years now - last time I was there they had 3 tables going). But this $100 cap game is so badly structured no one will play it after a while out of lack of interest.
