View Full Version : Why I prefer Vegas to offshore

Call me old-fashioned, or whatever, but I'm not an offshore sports betting fan. Here's why:

1. Sure there's more on offer offshore (Nevada needs to loosen up some its rules and regulations), but it's just too easy to get in over your head and make silly plays.
In Las Vegas, you have to bring your cash with you. That makes you slow down and think.

2. I like the atmosphere of a real sports book. Yes, I like the drinks (not too many), the cheering when a late (and otherwise meaningless) touchdown produces a frontdoor cover, the ability to watch several games at once without ruining your eyes.

3. You see all the lines at once. And not much more. You don't get bogged down with information overload. I always check three things before I go, and only these three: injuries, and the standing and current form of the teams I'm considering. In football, I'll check the weather. That's it.

4. I use the time between trips observing on TV and gathering information. I think betting everyday offshore, you lose the forest for the trees. I find my percentage isn't much over 50%. In Vegas, I find I can actually win about 58-60% of my bets. That more than covers the higher expenses.

My favorite sportsbooks in Las Vegas are:

1. Mandalay Bay. No added games in college basketball, but
a great atmosphere and location. Deals a puck line in hockey. Higher limits also.

2. Gold Coast. Great lines (dime baseball line) and good limits.

3. Stardust. A scruffy atmosphere but it deals the most games. When and if it's imploded, it will be missed.

I know I may be a minority of one, but my results in Vegas have been better. Feel free to flame away.
