View Full Version : You can't get punched in the face on the internet.

I can't help but wonder why it is that so many people can't have a civil disagreement on the internet. Somebody posts a repeat and he gets told to go drown himself. Another poster applauds the guy who made the drowning comment.

Most people would never say these things in person. If somebody told you about an article you'd already read while you were in the office, you wouldn't suggest that they should kill themselves, yet here on 2+2 we get somebody making that suggestion, and another person applauding them for it.

I don't get it, but then again I'm just a wannabe rounder who should just kiss somebody's ass, and drown myself while jumping from a high place /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I applauded cuz I lauged. That's why I read here. I don't believe anyone was offended. If they were, they need more skin.

It's not so much the internet as the anonymousity of it. I noticed this years ago in other endeavours. Notice how crank phone calls deccreased when caller ID became available. Not to mention things like security cameras. Like you said, you can't get punched in the nose, or a flat put in your tire.

What does this tell you about human nature?

I used to feel bad about taking the money of less skilled players, kind of figuring that I was taking advantage of the helpless. Now, whenever I get that feeling I just think of the things like those you mentioned and that dispels any regrets. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do you have any other stupid questions? /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Our general rule for chat at Truepoker is that, if you couldn't say it across the table to a guy twice your size in a live game, we won't allow it in our games. We do try and keep chat civil, by that rather loose but widely understood standard.

Does that mean that if I FAX you a copy of my concealed weapon permit I can say whatever I wish at Truepoker? /images/graemlins/smile.gif

its absolutely terrible what some of these uncivilized posters will say. i have tried over and over to get them to be more tasteful and respectful of others. but alas i must say i give up trying. i hope that they just set themselves on fire and burn up slowly while smoldering.

what if you're 300 pounds? a guy twice your size would probably be morbidly obese, and safe to say anything to. Just wondering.

Nah, twice your height. I'm worried about a 13' tall guy if I ever play on Truepoker.

I don't get the joke, sorry.

(Where I reside a concealed weapon permit is not a license
to use one.)

A good lesson in life. If you wouldn't start a fight with Mike Tyson over it, don't start a fight with some dweeb that's half your size.

Huh? So some dweeb could do something really bad to your kid, but just because you'd be reluctant to go at Tyson unarmed means you wouldn't punch the dweeb out? That makes precisely zero sense.

If it were a situation where you were defending yourself or your family, I assume you would take whatever means necessary to defend yourself and your property.. It could mean the use of a bat, a gun etc..

However if someone 5'2" spills a beer on you at a bar, Or, if they hit on your girlfriend, wife etc you should treat it the same as if that person was Willie McGinest. .... Otherwise, you are nothing more than a bully.
Much like the United States.. If you wouldn't start a war over some matter with a country that might actually kick your ass , don't start a war with a country that has no means to defend themselves over that same matter.. Otherwise you are nothing more than a bully.

Get it?

I have played only once in a casino, and have a weekly home game I play in. I've never seen any sort of violence. Does this occur frequently? Have you ever seen anyone get punched at a poker table?
