I want to spend up to a dime for a new one. 19-23" preferably. Do my bidding.

my only advice is don't cheap out on a flat pannel one, I got one from dell and the picture isn't great and now it has some problem and doesn't work so I am using my 6 year old humongus again.

Go to a computer show. I went the other day and they go insane if you pay cash. I got a 22" true flat screen Sony Trinitron for $200 (it would have been over $250 had I not payed cash).

i have one, and a second is on its way. it's VERY arguably the best pc monitor in existence.

If you want a CRT, get a Lacie Electron22Blue (http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10037). It has great color, does high-res/high-refresh very well, and is just completely and utterly solid.

If you want a panel, I'd consider slightly upping your spending limit, so you can get a good (20-22 inch) 1600x1200 panel. They're currently running from just over $1k to $1,500 or so, depending on the exact model. You can nab a decent 1280x1024 panel (17-19 inches) for between $500 and $750.

I don't have any great recommendations on panels. Every panel that I've sold in quantity has wound up having a few die, so I just don't know. Personally, I use two Lacie lcd panels, but I haven't sold enough of them to know if they're any good.

try ecost.com. good prices on flat screens.
make sure you check the pixel size, resolution of these monitors before you buy them like the other poster said. get into all those stats and get one that's got top marks in all of them. it varies a lot and makes a real difference. the cheap ass monitors are dim and fuzzy and that sucks.
