View Full Version : cardplayer mag and laziness

Hi guys,

I was going to post this in books and software, but as it's value is questionable I thought it would belong here.

Here is my short list of items I want for Christmas:

1) 21" flatscreen CRT monitor (~$250-500)
2) A subscription to carplayer magazine ($109)
3) A wheelbarrow full of cash to pay off my student loans ($35,606.88 + cost of wheelbarrow)

Since it seems that I'm not going to get any of these from friends and family, I'm considering purchasing the cardplayer subscription as a gift to myself.

Here's my dilemma...

I know that you can read the content in cardplayer online, and by actually getting asubscription you're really just paying for a bunch of ads that go along with the content.

The problem is twofold. First, I want to read the magazine at some other location than in front of my computer (for example: in the john)...this could be rectified by printing out the articles into a prortable form and reading the printed material in the previously mentioned location. My secondary problem to this is it will cost me proably about the same amount to print a year's worth of articles as it would to subscribe and I'm lazy.

Are there any additional benefits I'm missing to just spending the money and getting the magazine? Do you think cardplayer's recent appearance on newstands might mean they are looking to increase subscriber base (and maybe cut the subscription cost?).

Please talk me into or out of the proper decision.

Thanks,
Jason

I couldn't imagine paying that kind of money for CP. Its mostly ads. All the rest of the content is readily available anyway. Finally, I just pick one up at my local card club (Commerce).

- Buy 4 books with that $109 - then you can read all you want about poker in the john.

I subscribe(d) to CP last year. It hasn't run out yet but when it does I won't renew. I have lots of free time at work and generally read the entire magazine on the net at work. By the time it comes in the mail I have already read the entire thing. I typically just throw it out without taking it out of the plastic bag it comes in.

Your situation may be different? But for me it isn't worth it.

Get a laptop with WiFi. Not only will you be able to read Cardplayer online on the bog but you will be able to play poker there as well. Will also avoid the need to get a new monitor.

I'm the -last- person in the word to tell -anyone- they have a problem. But dude. It's the toilet.

And as long you wash your hands afterwards, I don't care what you do there.

it would cost you $109 to print out a years worth of articles? maybe printing on gold tablets like joeseph smith, but now a days you can buy a printer for that much.

Ok...really I was just looking for an excuse to buy the subscription. It's really more the laziness factor than anything. Given my current financial state, printing is probably the best idea.

Although, I like ramjam's suggestion the most. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks to everyone for their input.

It will make you read every page and every article if you pay for it.

I don't know Lori. I let my subscription lapse last month because I have 2 years of them piled up in the living room that I haven't gotten to yet. Guess I need to find out where MrBaseball works.

P.S. i got a subscription recently, and find that I read the articles online and am way behind looking at the paper...and I wouldn't have thought that was so!

In fact, if you would like me to change the address, you are welcome to it! I can get a copy at the local casino and I probably need to get out of the house more!
