Any suggestions about where to stay and where to play in Tunica?

IMHO the horseshoe is the only way to fly, good poker rate, generous comps. (They comped me a breakfast once while I was waiting on a seat) quick poker table food service, and good food all around. also any size of action you wish, from 4-8 holdem to 25-50 pot limit and a foolishly large triple draw lowball game sometimes goes there. also for the rest of the month there is a Big poker tournament going on there and the gold strike (next door neighbors), The world poker open. so its probably booked tight and you will usually have to make reservations in advance anyway as the hotel is usually booked solid by the time I get there on a normal Friday afternoon.

sams town, average food, you have to play a while to get anything from them I think its like 8 hours for a discount room, 10-20 is the largest game I have seen there. but for the low limit player they often have the best action (once took 100bb, yes 8 racks, out of a 4-8 game where almost every hand was straddled).

the grand- crappy food, nice hotel rooms but a little pricey, don't know about room comp policy as I have never played there long enough. as of last week there were some hotel rooms left for January. you can reserve them on the web.

places to ignore playing at,

Hollywood, gold strike (except during the world poker open) small poker rooms in both, hit or miss as to wether or not there is a game at all, and if it is most times its 1-5 7stud with a high rake, and jackpot.

Bally's- trust me this casino has no redeeming value whatsoever, It reminds me of the one in ntl lampoons vegas vacation

for games other than poker they all seem about the same to me, but I may play BJ for a few min every third trip or so so I don't really know, but if you are a card counter I have heard that tunica is the place to go because there is absolutely no heat whatsoever, however that is only what I have heard.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but thanks for the info. I was thinking about Sams because I had heard of their good 4-8 games but you make the horseshoe sound good. I'll be going in about 3 weeks so the tournament will be over.

Appreciate your help.
