We got a wild drunk maniac at the table. They finally got him to quit cussing but he's still stirrin up the table. Now I don't mind much as he's the live one and is buyin a rack every 20 minutes or so. He's bluffin a bunch too so ya never know when to call him down.

However, EVERY time I'm in a hand with him and at the river he actually makes something I cant beat and bets into me, when I call he wants to see my hand. This is getting irritating because each and every time it's a quality hand that he cracked.

So this hand comes up. By the time we get to the river, with the 4 str8 on the board and him outta chips, He proudly turns over his hand. Yup he's got the suckers end of the str8. So, KNOWING, he wants to see my hand, I just drop it face down, just like when his hand is best and I'm releasing. "I wanna see that hand. DEALER TURN IT OVER". And of course the dealer turns over my nut hand, and pushes me the pot.

uhoh....lol...can you say BALLISTIC?

Well he finally gets it thru his thick skull that when the winning player calls for a hand to see that hand stays live. If the mucked hand is in fact better then the winners, the winner loses all rights to the pot.

No one the rest of the night asked to see my hand at any time. Amazing isnt it?

If you "folded", I don't understand why the dealer didn't kill your hand before turning it over. That would happen everytime in Vegas.

Dynasty,

I could only make this play in a few places. The rule is: If the "so far shown winning hand" calls to see the other hand it is live and can win the pot. It has gotten so bad at some places with lousy players drawing out when you have jammed at a pot with the best till the river, and then they wanna see your hand. They always of course see that you had way the best and they had the slimest of draws. They then try to humiliate you. So a small change came to play. If you have the winning hand and want to see my hand that I'm releasing, it will stay live and can win.

This has cut down on a few morons that keep wanting to see that hand.

Two comments. A) Dynasty, if a player other than the player showing the winning hand asks to see a folded hand, the hand is touched to the muck and then shown. If it is the apparent winner who is asking, the hand is not mucked and remains alive with the potential of taking the pot.

2. Tommy Angelo wrote an excellent article in pokerpages.com regarding this rule. We also had a discussion about that rule here on 2+2 that you will find in the archives I am sure. Most players agree that the IWTSTH rule is a dinosaur that does not accomplish the objectives that it was written for. The rulebook in the Casino that I work in addresses this issue differently. If you would like to know more, check through the archives, the rule is outlined there.

Nonetheless, a friend of mine cured a player of that nasty asking habit in the same manner as you describe. I loved it then and I still do. Well done sir.

This post actually inpired me to do something similar- flash one card in a hand I won so that somebody would ask to see it. I had the idea before but this post reminded me of it. I posted the hand in Small Stakes.
