When I call I lose, When I bet I win....

It seems when Im on the betting side I am wining, and when on the calling side Im losing. What steps can I take to stop calling so much? It sounds so simply, yet is so complicated. What are some traps to avoid? I have a hard time laying down middle pair in a shorthanded pot.
Should I avoid hands like KQo, AJo from EP?

Sounds simple, but simple usually works.

Sounds like you are betting you better hands and calling with marginal ones, sometimes better off raising or folding than calling. Choose wisely.
