I recently picked up a CD copy of John Mayall Jazz Blues Fusion. I have the vinyl somewhere but no place to play it anyway and it was a huge favorite when I was in high school.

Recorded in 1972, this album has to be the best live blues jam session ( or one of the best ). Freddie Robinson is outstanding on guitar as is Blue Mitchell on trumpet and Mayall is great too.

It is shameless jamming with no great lyrics but they got the liveness on the tape. The only thing similar that comes to mind is James Brown live at the Apollo
( not blues but hella live).

Many big names have played with Mayall, Eric Clapton(Cream),Mick Fleetwood(Fleetwood Mack)and Mick Taylor(Stones). Its a shame that I lost my memory in the 60s for I can't remember listening to Mayall much since then. I checked out his official web site, he's still going strong at 69. There was a decent documentary on the history of blues On PBS a while back, Mayall got credit for his contributions.

Well I'll have to check it out. thanks for the post. One of my favorite CDs is a live recording of Albert Collins at the Fillmore way back in 69 or something. Not sure how this stacks up against other live blues albums.

B. B. King Live in Cook County Jail (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000062Y5/qid=1068171689/sr=1-4/ref=sr_1_4/102-4429829-9709755?v=glance&s=music) is supposed to be great too. I've been meaning to get it for a while.

Buck Owens and the Buckaroo's live at Carnegie Hall.

Best live blues ever recorded on planet Earth.

Recorded 1972. Maybe not the best blues live album ever, who knows, (I don't have a lot of live albums by blues masters anyway) but a great album IMHO. "Bang bang bang" (inmates love it), "I'm your crosscut saw", "Boogie everywhere I go", "What's the matter, baby" ('you gonna drive, you gonna drive, oh you gonna drive, lil Johnny Lee, lil Johnny Lee, outtahis miiiiind'), etc.
