Don't you think he would have re-raised preflop or capped the flop or raised the turn if he had AK instead of waiting till the river?

I'm not too worried about A-K, since you would probably see some more action, such as a flop cap or turn raise. You also probably would have been 3-bet preflop.

So I would bet the river. You will get paid by all aces. Hopefully he didn't have A-7 or A-8.

he bets and i check raise him on the river.. i imagine the dumbfounded look upon his face as he calls and sees that his weak ace or flopped set is no good.. well, if he flopped the set he would reraise the river, which you love.

Why not bet and 3-bet?

I checked with the intention of raising. I thought he had an Ace and was going to bet. He ended up checking behind and I thought I had missed a bet, until I looked at the hand history and saw he had QdTd for the busted draw. I'm not sure if checking is correct here given the fact that he will pretty much only bet with an Ace or a set, while he will call with any pair or even sometimes he might call with his Queen high. It is amazing how many people have called me with Queen high or less.
