Hey No,

You are starting with the right books. Try and post some questionable hands for comment so we can get an idea of your play. Also, forget the term 'bad beat' when playing the micro-limits. Don't worry - if you're playing by the book, you'll be fine in the long run. It doesn't sound like you've had enough hours yet to come up with an hourly rate or any expectations, just keep plugging away and learning (hopefully) from mistakes.

Good luck,
jbc

TIGHT IS RIGHT!!

The micro limit games are VERY easy to beat (especially at Party). Play only premium starting hands and play them aggressively. Pay attention to position. You will have alot of people draw out on you (it's the nature of low limit) but don't get discouraged. When you have the best hand plenty of people will pay you off. This will more than make up for the times you get drawn out. Don't try to bluff or play fancy...it doesn't work. Post hands here and ask advice. This forum has many knowledgable people that are very helpful. Most of all, have fun and learn as you go.

Bill Burton's book is excellent...this was one of the first book's I read also. Read and Re-read...then read again /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Good Luck!!

In addition to what others have said, you should be aware that loosing or winning $100 at the .5/1 level is not an indication of weather or not you are a winning player. For play at the .5/1 level you should have a bankroll of $300.

I would also recomend that you get poker tracker. It will keep track of what hands win, and what hands loose, and it will help you to identify leaks in your game quickly.

Also be aware that you need a sample of several thousand hands before you can learn anything usefull from your results.

bob ciaffone's middle limit holdem poker is excellent even for these low limit games. most of the hands deal with folding hands that most beginners would call with, and these folds are almost always correct.

there are also a ton of websites which mostly deal with starting hand strategy for low-limit online games.

i went to my local casino for some 3/6 in my first 4 hands i got AA KQo KK KQo and after those for hands i handnt scraped a pot and had lost $24.

You're making some HUGE mistakes if you only lost $24 with AA, KK, and KQo twice, where none of them held up.
