It seems to me that if you are on the big blind facing a multiway once raised pot (that you are confident will not be re-raised), you could apply the same standards to defending the big blind that you would to defending the small blind in an unraised multiway pot. This means defending with any ace, any suited cards, conecters etc.

So for example, suppose everyone limps to the small blind who raises. You are on the big blind with J5s. You call, right? If not, why not?

There is a camp who believes in defending the blinds when appropriate odds are placed - As in your example. However, I seem to get in trouble when I call a raise from the BB even when I am getting good odds. And I don't think I'm giving too much up by having tighter calling standards. The same applies for completing the SB in an unraised pot. But that's just me.
