Down to 120 players, started with 700. I have an average stack, about 5500.

Blinds are 200, 400. EP Stack of about 8000 makes it 800. He's been doing this more than normal but not all the time. I reraise it to 1400 to go. Folded back to him and he bumps me another 1000. He could be screwing with me - it's hard to tell. I call.

Flop comes A53 rainbow. He bets 400, I raise to 800, he calls. Turn comes a 10. He bets almost 1000, more than half my remaining stack. I muck it with around 1800 left.

Where did I go wrong? I think I should have mucked it prelop somewhere, probably right away. 77 was just too weak here, correct? Feel free to comment on the rest of my play as well.

the money is simply not deep enough to do all this screwing around, especially on party.

Hi Mom,

It's hard to say with so little information. (I didn't know you had 77 until the last paragraph.) Were you in the blind?

In general, I'd have just called the small raise, taken the flop, and applied the no-set-no-bet rule. Why risk your stack at this juncture on a hand like 77? Be patient, wait for a better hand (or a better flop) to make a stand on, and let the chips come to you.

Hope this helps.

Pre-flop, you have 2 options as far as I can see. Either muck (1st choice) or raise all-in. I think calling 800 and hope to flop a set is not good idea since 800 is too high a percentage of your stack.

Sorry, that was a poorly written post.

I think I developed a new rule for when I have an average stack - Ask myself 'Is this a hand I would want to go bust on?' 77 certainly is not. This hand should have made its way to the muck. Thanks for your thoughts.
