It is a program that runs on your computer towards advanced protein folding technology.
It will help us all eat tastier more nutritious chicken protein one day.

My work units are worth a lot of points for some reason...

Either that or it will cure some of the most devastating diseases known to man. No exageration.

. . . when proteins do not fold correctly (i.e. "misfold"), there can be serious effects, including many well known diseases, such as Alzheimer's, Mad Cow (BSE), CJD, ALS, and Parkinson's disease.

So did mine.
I'd also like the reason behind the points. I figured it had something to do with finishes in the KotZ tourney or something.

How do you decide how much credit a work unit is worth?
How do you determine how many points a work unit is worth? Before putting out any new work unit, we benchmark it on a dedicated 500MHz Celeron machine (this machine does not have SSE/3DNow). We plug the results of this into the following formula:
points = 3.5 * multiplier * (daysPerWU)
where daysPerWU is -- no surprise -- the number of days it took to complete the unit.

It has nothing to do with KotZ. The points are based upon the value of the work units (WU's) you complete. See Lorinda's post for more info on that.

My father-in-law died of PSP (think Parkinson's on steroids) just last week. My mom has Alzheimer's... Getting old can suck, sometimes.
