Who are they? or who are us? or who is 'us' [(or is it Whom are ‘us’?] - Sounds as amorphous as the ubiquitous 'they' that pops into many posts, usually as a backstop for faulty reasoning.

Reminded me of the Edmond O'Brien monologue in Wild Bunch when the bunch find out that instead of the gold they thought they were carrying from the bank robbery, the bags contain washers. William Holden mutters that "they" set 'em up and O'Brien explodes.
