View Full Version : That suspicious bet from the cutoff

I've been making this play sometimes in the right situation.

I am on the button with two cards. The pot is unraised and three to five handed, including me and the cutoff.

The flop comes with an A. All check to the cutoff who bets. I raise and take it down. Sometimes I have to fire on the turn but very rarely.

This seems like an OBVIOUS spot where the cutoff will rarely actually have an ace. This is of course only in those cases where the cutoff is a decent player. If he had a decent ace worth playing, I think in almost all cases he would raise preflop to get the button and take control of the hand. It's obvious to me he limped with a small pocket pair or a couple face cards.

This read and subsequent move has been working very well for me. Any comments? Do any of you limit experts make this play?

if the guy on the cut-off is weak, i think it's a great play to raise. get him 1 on 1.

oh no. check, re-raise from the early spot! damn.

all in all yeah its a winning play.
