Where's the bad beat?

You overplayed your hand. Preflop, three-betting with QJs out of the SB is borderline insane. On the river, you should have check-called as the board pairing made it highly likely that GoldMiner60 filled up.

I don't feel qualified to comment on your play.

However, I would point out that no way is this a "bad beat". You went in pre-flop as a slight underdog to the victor. On the flop you were less than a 2/1 favourite against him.

Agreed. This was tilt - losing a big pot to a lucky river just annoyed the heck out of me.

Your 3-bet preflop with QJs is just terrible. You make it seem like it's a giant stroke of luck that your opponent filled up, but on the turn, he had 10 outs against your straight. This stuff happens all the time. Heck, he's got better odds on the turn for filling up than he would if he was on a flush draw. If someone flopped 4 to the flush and rivered their flush, woud you consider it a bad beat? I wouldn't.

The problem here is that you *expect* to win. Forget what you expect and forget what you think you deserve. All you should be focusing on is maximizing your EV and playing correctly, which you didn't do in this hand.

Aside from the preflop error, the river is overplayed as well. After the turn is capped, what do you put your opponent on? After the board pairs on the river, I'm hoping that he's either overplayed 2-pair or we're chopping. Either way, the 3-bet doesn't have much value. I think you'll gain a lot more out of this hand if you look at it as a learning session and not a bad beat.

Hi dm--

Well the subject sure sparked my interest, but I'm with the others... no bad beat here (for the reasons given)... /images/graemlins/frown.gif

Take care--
