View Full Version : An Undefeated Season? Who's Going to Beat the Kansas City Chiefs?

The Kansas City Chiefs have started their season 8-0 and have a very weak schedule in the second half. They only play two teams with winning records for the rest of the season. One of those teams, Denver, has huge QB problems and are in freefall. The Chiefs may make a serious run at a 16-0 regular season.

Here's the remainder of their schedule:

Week 9: Bye
Week 10: Cleveland (3-5)
Week 11: at Cincinnati (3-4)
Week 12: Oakland (2-5)
Week 13: at San Diego (1-5)
Week 14: at Denver (5-3)
Week 15: Detroit (1-6)
Week 16: at Minnesota (6-1)
Week 17: Chicago (2-5)

They may have a letdown against Cinci or Cleveland...but my best guess is that they'll lose against Minnesota if they make it that far.

The Bengals are getting dangerous, and weird things tend to happen in the old AFC "rivalry games" (Oakland, Denver).

I don't think they'll go undefeated, but they're just about a mortal lock for home-field in the playoffs.

The Browns are much better than their record suggests. You can't load up on one or two receivers and their red-zone defense may be #1 in the NFL. I say the Chiefs come out of the bye week overconfident and lose that one, the go on to Cincy and lose there, too.

14-2 isn't all that bad. /images/graemlins/cool.gif

Given that KC stays healthy:

"Week 10: Cleveland (3-5)"

Yep easy win for KC.

"Week 11: at Cincinnati (3-4)"

Surprisingly I think this could be a tough game for KC. Bengals are an improved team.

"Week 12: Oakland (2-5)"

KC should win this game.

"Week 13: at San Diego (1-5)"

And this one.

"Week 14: at Denver (5-3)"

This is the most likely loss for the Chiefs. They only beat Denver by 1 in KC.

"Week 15: Detroit (1-6)"

Easy win.

"Week 16: at Minnesota (6-1)"

Second most likely loss.

"Week 17: Chicago (2-5)"

Interesting because if the Chiefs play the Bears at 15-0 they'll have no incentive other than an undefeated season to play their top players very much assuming the Colts lose another game. If the Colts only lose one game and the Chiefs go in 15-0 the tie breaker would be in the Colts favor since their only loss would be to an NFC team. I consider two teams finishing at 15-1 to have a very low probability of happening though. Yep the Chiefs could definitely run the table from here but I doubt if they will.

Perfect bye week for the Chiefs.

So, are any bookmakers/sports betting houses/casinos etc taking bets on the Chiefs going undefeated in the regular season? And if so what are the odds? If not, they should start now.

25/1?
50/1?
100/1?

A few years ago one team almost went undefeated in regular season play(I forgot who), so it's always a subject of great interest and I think alot of people would bet on it. Maybe they do, I do not follow sports betting much.

Disagree. Classic trap game. Cleveland has a great Red Zone Defense and the best top to bottom receivers in the league. Not saying it's a guaratee, but I can see a number of scenarios where the browns win.

"Week 14: at Denver (5-3)" This is the most likely loss for the Chiefs. They only beat Denver by 1 in KC.

That was before the Broncos were holding open auditions for QB.

Plummer will be back by then. The bigger problem is the loss of Ian Gold the week after the first K.C./Denver game, the uncertain status of John Mobley (after leaving the Baltimore game with a bruised spine) and the poor play calling of Mike Shanahan/Gary Kubiak.

You just put the curse on them.

Even if they go undefeated in the regular season, they still have to win the SuperBowl to have it matter.

I personally do not think they will finish 16-0.

Although, you have to love Dick Vermeil. From nervous breakdown to Superbowl winning coach to contender.

If by saying Cleveland has the best top to bottom receivers in the league means that Andre' Davis is better than any other team's 5th WR, I agree. But I don't think this has much value. Their top dawgs are not even up to the league average, it's just that their 2nd stringers are even with their best.

Week 10 by the boards for KC. Easy win against the Browns as expected. Looking over the rest of the schedule again the Vikings game is looking a bit easier since the Vikings crummy defense is coming front and center. Green Bay ran the ball down the Viking's throats and the Chargers did well on the ground as well. Once NFL teams find your weakness it's exploited mercilessly. KC might pack it in the last game especially by not playing Green very much though.

The Browns actually had the best pass defense in the NFL prior to their game with the Cheifs. Kansas City's complete domination in that game makes them look like the most serious threat to have a perfect season since the '85 Bears.

'85 Bears?

I thought the last team to go undefeated was the 73 Dolphins?

Or did you mean that they will roll through the playoffs hitting no competition like the '85 Bears.

That being said, i think the Super bowl winner will be the AFC Champion. Whether it be the Colts, Cheifs, or my Titans, that AFC game is going to be really good.

and to answer your question, the Cheifs only chance of getting beat are by the Vikings and the Broncos. Every other game if they lose it will be because of injury, turnovers or some other form of self-defeat.

He said threat to go undefeated, the 85 Bears were defeated in their 13th regular season game I believe.

Ah. thank you.

What about the 98 Broncos. they were defeated in 13th? (14th?) game by Giants.

The Bears made me believe they could go undefeated but no other team, Broncos included, made me believe. Maybe it was just the swagger and Super Bowl Shuffle video. Teams like the Broncos that start strong just seemed like the best team in the league but which would eventually lose a game but probably go on to win the Super Bowl.

It had to be the Super Bowl Shuffle.

If KC loses its either now, or in week 16.
