Paradise .50/1.00 table.... loose passive

I'm in CO with A /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 10 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif

UTG calls, folded to me, I raise, button calls, both blinds fold, UTG calls.

FLOP: A /images/graemlins/spade.gif 8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif 8 /images/graemlins/heart.gif

UTG checks, I bet, button folds, UTG calls.

TURN: 3 /images/graemlins/club.gif

UTG checks, I bet, he calls

RIVER: 7 /images/graemlins/heart.gif

He checks, I check behind. MHIG. I know this may be a little weak, but I had no real reads here, and was thinking he might have had an 8, plus my 10 wasn't the greatest of kickers. I know I lost a bet, here, but do you think this is correct play for this situation?

Any A will call you down here, even if it is better than yours. You have no reason to believe you don't have the best hand here. Bet the river.

Yeah...you need to go ahead and bet at this.

Especially since even if he had an ace and caught his kicker, his two pair would be counterfeited.

Rest of hand played well.

The only time you should avoid betting here is if you think:

1. You don't have the better hand...AND,
2. You believe you are going to be checkraised

Since there would seem to be little risk of a checkraise (since if he had an eight he would have been foolish to not checkraise you on the turn), I think you have an automatic bet here.

If your river check induces a bluff fine, however you lost a big bet.

Very few players will wait until the river to check raise.

Huh!?!?

Hero plays last after it was checked to him...or should he have been looking for the secret, double check behind bluff bet on the river? /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bet the river.

I had no real reads here, and was thinking he might have had an 8

And not raise the turn?

plus my 10 wasn't the greatest of kickers.

Most players who had you outkicked would have raised preflop.

I know I lost a bet, here, but do you think this is correct play for this situation?

If you know you lost a bet here, then you know your play was incorrect. What situation? You really have no reason to believe you're behind.

You played the hand well until you got cold feet on the river.

You just have to be a smarty-pants, don't you? /images/graemlins/grin.gif
