No doubt, its just the "type" of people they are that boils the blood. If you doubt this, just tryinn skiing at a one of the major touristy Colorado ski resorts, such as Breckenridge, Keystone, or anywhere in the Sourthern part of the state.

A born/raised native of L.A., and I also lived in the Northeast. I told myself I would never live in Texas, hate those damn people, etc. I live in Houston now, the U.S. Army dropped me off here in 1984, and man now I just love Texas! Big cheap houses! I have a 2,500 sq. ft. two-story beauty and it only cost $107k brand new. And it's all paid for. Find that in L.A.! Lots of cheap land too. Started my own business here about 10 years ago [oil and gas consulting]. Cigar bars where I can smoke my Padrons. The best and classiest titty bars in the world. I can drive my truck or SUV in freedom. Y'all come on down here, it is THE LAND OF THE FREE! /images/graemlins/smile.gif But no poker /images/graemlins/confused.gif But that's okay because the women here are so fine and so horny! Yeah baby! /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Texas is the only state in the Union where it is legal to fly the state flag as high as the United States.

This may explain a few things.

Nowhere else I'd rather live in the U.S than Texas.

Most of the haters are just jealous.

Afew obscure facts.....

1)Texas is the only state that has the right to fly the state flag as high as the US flag.

2)Texas is the only state that retains the right in perpetuity to divide itself into up to 5 seperate states.

3) The Texas state capitol is the only state capitol in the United States that does NOT face Washington D.C. (I read this at the state capitol itself).

4) The Texas state capitol is the only capitol building taller than the US capitol building.

5) The San Jacinto monument is taller than the Washington monument.

6) I could go on forever, but, as was stated before...Texas Holdem was invented here....'nuff said.

Somehow, I don't believe this.

If it is true, I suspect it's more likely some big coincidence (as unlikely as such a coincidence would be) rather than each of the 49 other states purposefully building their state capitol to face DC.

The 3 biggest lies told in Texas:

1) The Cadillac out back is paid for.
2) I won this belt buckle in the Rodeo.
3) Honest! I was just helping the sheep over the fence.

David, I tried doing a little research on this and all I came up with was that Georgia's Capitol building faces West ( towards Texas /images/graemlins/wink.gif not Washington ) so I'd be curious if you have any link.

BTW San Antonio is a very nice city.

The Washington Monument was originally designed to be 600 ft tall. During construction the plans were changed to follow the ancient Egyptians rule of thumb of a 10 to 1 ratio height to base dimensions, therefore it became 555 feet tall.

As far as retaining the right to split into 5 seperate states Texas may believe they still retain that right but I beg to differ. Section 3 of the US Constitution states:

"New states may be admitted by the Congress into this union; but no new states shall be formed or erected within the jurisdiction of any other state; nor any state be formed by the junction of two or more states, or parts of states, without the consent of the legislatures of the states concerned as well as of the Congress."

This all but eliminates the possibility. In addition after Texas seceded from the Union and was later readmitted in 1865 they likely gave up any initial rights agreed to in the original annexation.

Actually several State capital buildings are taller than the national Capital in DC. It is however 2nd in total square footage and smaller only than the US Capital building.

Any state flag can be flown at the same height as the US Flag but the US flag will be given the location farthest to the right.

Other than these few mistakes plus the one about capitals not facing DC you were pretty accurate. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

I find most Texans who love Texas have spent very little time outside of Texas. I spent 9 months in TX on a project in Plano. This could be an oscure sampling, but I think it probably holds true for most.

Sorry, but Houston sucks.

Yes, I could trade my cute, litte SoCal condo and pay cash for a mansion, but there is a reason for that. 95% Humidity and mosquitos the size of small birds.

Yes, I could trade my cute, little wife for a dozen Houston gals, but there is a reason for that, too. 40% body fat, and asses the size of Big Bird (Larry Bird too!).

Perhaps. But then hitler and stalin were people too. However, in my view, (after unfortunately living there for almost 20 years) is that the vast, VAST majority of texans do for society what the black plague did for the middle ages. The worst part of it all is that the average idiot texan is totally convinced of his own superiority. I wish the whole damn state would just do like some (brilliant) texans want, which is to secede from the union!

Anyone reading this, never NEVER EVER bother with texas, it's HELL on earth.

Actually I stayed in the U.K in the past. I love England but I still consider Texas the nicest place to live.

This is the most ignorant post I have seen on this board. You obviously have no clue.

Health Highlights: Jan. 3, 2003

Here are some of the latest health and medical news developments, compiled by editors of The HealthScout News Service :

Houston Three-Peats as Fattest U.S. City

Houston, we still have a weight problem.

For the third straight year, Houston leads the United States as the fattest city, according to Men's Fitness magazine. Next on the 2003 list of America's 25 "fat cities" are Chicago, Detroit, Philadelphia, St Louis, and Cleveland.

The magazine ranked 16 factors, including fruit and vegetable consumption, junk-food habits, participation in exercise/sport activities, and the number of overweight/sedentary residents.

"We do not relish the title bestowed upon us by Men's Fitness ," Houston mayor Lee Brown told the Associated Press in a statement. Brown vowed to "improve the overall health and fitness of the city's residents."

On the flip side, the magazine's top five fittest cities for 2003 are: Honolulu, Seattle, San Francisco, Colorado Springs, and San Diego.

Okay, my dad was from Texas. A small town called Terrel. I've never met a ruder, more full of themselves bunch of people in my entire life. Everyone I met, I wanted to punch dead in the face. Now, that being said... Texas Music is the best thing God ever created, and Nashville should take a long hard look at what is coming out of Texas, and I have heard lots of really good things about Austin.
