I have no idea how to go about getting your own .com and/or webspace. What I want to do is have my own domain to use for personal use or maybe to offer some services of some sort. It has to be cheap.

What I want to have is my own webspace I can access via ftp which I can use the following:
- ASP and PHP
- maybe CGI

Does anybody know a cheap reliable way to have a server with all this, and how I can go about getting it?

Thanks zoo.

The hosting service I have used has something in the "student" category, but the cheapest thing to do is get several people to share one host...and "point" your domain to the same hosting service...the people type in www.duxdelux.com (http://www.duxdelux.com) but go to a site that has several sharing one host...and the host may not be much more than ten a month total. I can't remember if our bill is $17 or $47 for three months.

godaddy.com is about the cheapest I've seen that does what you want.

also check out www.godaddy.com (http://www.godaddy.com) , and we get nothing from this...but when you do look for an inexpensive hosting plan, be sure you have enough data transfer allowance. Our website got to 1,250 times the amount they allow in the low end package.

The other thing...after the searchengine browser spiders go through when the site is new, the data transfer goes back down. I do not know how much they charge, but I know of one that allows 3000mb per month for $9.95 but there are discounts available to I think $4.95 or $5.95...anyway here is one to compare to that is not Godaddy, or doteasy...

Good luck in getting a site up and running dux, good to see you back on the board (you've been a bit quiet recently?)

I had the same plans as you and went ahead and got my name - www.simongreig.com (http://www.simongreig.com), but I have only made the entry page so far. Have no idea what I am going to use the space for though.

I love poker - it's my one and only hobby and owner of my spare time. When I'm running well I play alot. When I'm running badly I spend more time surfing and posting.
