20-40 4am great game ten handed at the moment. 4 limpers and sb calls. sb has about 8 racks in front of him. i check my option w/ J2o. ive never played against sb before but he seems to be playing every single hand.

the flop is Jc7h3c. sb bets, i raise, someone calls, sb calls.

the turn is 2h. sb bets, i raise, other player folds, sb calls.

the river is 4d. sb bets, i call.

comments?

Your play seems reasonable to me. I don't think you should raise this river if you're not familiar with how the opponent plays.

I suppose raising beats calling, but folding is probably best. I think this is a good example of being able to fold top pair for a single bet. Whether you won or lost the hand is irrelevant. The 4 players acting after you, make the sb's play much less relevant as well. IMO-

Notice he has two pair on the turn.

Play seems reasonable to me. He just keeps coming...

I like the flop play. Im suspicous of someone that bets into me at turn after I raised flop. I would call here. and check call river.

Raise again on the river! To me it looks like 7 /images/graemlins/heart.gif4 /images/graemlins/heart.gif is what the SB has. Time to get one more bet.

The only concern is that SB has made a brilliant stop-and-go with J4 or J7, but I think it's two smaller pair.

I like it, start to finish.

This is a pretty ragged flop. I don't think I'm giving up on my jack just yet.

Stop being suspicious. Players with strong hands checkraise the turn when you show strength on the flop. Players with weak hands who aren't ready to give up yet bet out again on the turn.

Making two pair on the turn, has little to do with what's best on the flop.

On the flop.

I think it's close. At least closer than most would think. IMO-

I'd raise the river every time here.

His river bet is SOP for a player who has some sort of hand and is confident he will not be raised on the river. Holding a jack yourself, if he's got 2 pair here, they do not beat your 2 pair.

I suppose there is some chance that he flopped a set of 3's or 7's, but he sure didn't play the hand as if he did.

Especially for someone with 8 racks in front of him.

I'd be very surprised if he didn't hold 2 pair lower than yours, or an oddly-played biggish jack.

he had J4o for the winner on the river. i think whoever said i shouldve folded on the flop was completely correct. this is a very nuanced fold i think, but i should be at the point where im catching it. when you play in the middle of the night the games are much better in general, but you do give up something when you play tired (although i cant quite remember, this may have been one of those nights where i napped from 6-10pm and maybe i was wide awake).
