Heading to vegas next week...Are there any casinos that run single or multi table tournaments on a daily basis. I am an intermediate player and I prefer the NL tournaments over the money tables

Thanks

Orleans run 2 tournies a day. Noon and 7 p.m.. These are fairly low buyin tournies (50-100 for buyin and rebuy). Mirage also runs a tourney at 7 p.m. most days of the week. I believe the NL is Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday (5 p.m.). These are a little bit more expensive (200+ for the buyin and rebuy). Bellagio has a NL $500 buyin on Friday at 5.

You can check pokerpages or cardplayer sites for schedules of when the NL tournies are held.

I really enjoy the Orleans tournies. They are run well and the competition is weaker than the Mirage.

Hi,

Your best bet is to pick up a hard copy of Card Player Magazine. Near the back, is a list of all Vegas tournaments, by Day of the Week and Time of the Day

Also, a poster named FeliciaLee had a series of posts a few weeks ago about the various small-buyin tournaments at Luxor, Mandalay Bay etc.:

Howdy, thanks for linking in my post.

I really think that the best NL tourney in Vegas is probably at the Sahara. They are held on Wednesday and Saturday nights at 7pm. They regularly get 85 participants. The prize pool is very top heavy with first place getting 50% of the prize money. There is only one rebuy allowed.

This tourney is held in a quasi-turbo style, but definitely favors the good NL player over any other. I would estimate about 75% of the players to be "dead" money.

Don't expect the Bellagio. There is lots of drinking, smoking, chewing tobacco, cussing and fighting going on. This is "real" Vegas, lol.
-------------------------------------------
As far as the most beatable small buy-in tourneys, I would have to say the Luxor/Mandalay Bay tourneys are the "nuts." They start LHE, but progress to NLHE after the first hour, due to the small number of starting chips and the doubled blinds every 15 minutes. It is truly "turbo" and you must take a lot of chances after the first three levels. Something like A5 is not only playable, but raisable when you get short, lol. If you don't double up a couple of times before it goes no-limit, you don't usually have a prayer. Take advantage of the horrid play in the early levels. I am not saying that they know how to play poker, just play badly, I am truly saying they do NOT know how to play at all (the hand rankings, the "blinds," the betting limits, etc.).

There are no rebuys, but one small dealer's add-on for $3. This will give you an additional 50 in chips.
-------------------------------------------
The Orleans offers two tourneys every day. They are small buy-ins, and the prize pool gets huge with so many rebuys and add-ons. These are the problems I have with the Orleans as of late:

~They fired their poker room manager, and things seem to be a little hectic.
~They are having trouble with cheaters palming chips from the lower buy-in tourneys and adding them to their stacks in the higher buy-in tourneys. This adds a handicap to the good players that we cannot overcome or hope to "outplay."
~At their high attendance tourneys, they are still only playing out the top 8 or 10. This means that if a tourney attracts 200 players, only the top 5% gets paid!!! Any decent tourney player knows that this severally cripples his chances of getting in the money.
-------------------------------------------
As far as other tourneys, the satellites for the NLHE tourneys at the Mirage and Bellagio will net you a huge payday if you can parlay your satellite winnings into a cashing at the "big" event. If you are a Kamakazi player, I say "go for it." The players are better in the big event, but the satellite costs are just a small percentage of the full buy-in.

Good luck and have fun!
