if you are a winning player, you are better off buying in for the maximum.

if you are a losing player, do not play the later streets well, or go on tilt easily when you lose a big pot, buying in for the minimum has its merits. but the inability to win a lot of money on your big hands is a huge handicap for the good player.

It's a bad idea. If you want to make $20 easier than trying to double up in there just go to the $25 buy in.
