View Full Version : Maybe heading to AC

Hi Guys--

I found a deal that sounds pretty good... airfare to AC (from Manchester, NH) and 2 nites for $175 per (double occ.). I know nothing about AC, so I asked. The hotel is the "Resorts", and they DO NOT offer poker.

The travel agent stated that it's fine to play at other casinos since I'm actually paying for the trip (sounds like a lot of people that take this trip are totally comp'ed). Is the "Resorts" near someplace where I can play poker? Any thoughts?

Next trip is 11/5 - 11/7 (W - F).

Thanks in advance--

I'm not 100% positive, but I'm pretty sure Resorts is right next door to the Taj. Walk out onto the boardwalk, make a left, go about 100 ft, walk into the Taj, poker room is way on the other side of the casino.

"I'm taking notes [When get overpair, play like nancygirl] anything else?"
I still have myself surprised.

GL, and enjoy.

If your definite, send me a pm and I can meet you at Resorts and take you to the Borgata or the Taj.

You're correct - the Taj is next door. And it's the best poker room in AC.

Respectfully disagree. I prefer the Borgata now. More newbies, less attitude from the players.

All the Rounders type wannabes frequent the Taj. The Borgata has many more players who want to "try" poker.

I played at the Borg for the first time this past weekend in their 20-40 game (which was very good but not quite as good as Taj). The games are more passive there and more novices...I also like that it's quiet and more posh. Here's what I don't like...they still charge $7 per half hr at 20-40 when their dealers (with a couple notable exceptions) deal much slower than the Taj dealers...this makes me feel ripped. They allow people to buy chips at the table...I don't like this as it leads to fills and I'm paying by the hour. Also, I was there on Sat like 2 or so Am after the tourn ended and there was one 20-40 and we barely held it together through the night (which is ok, I don't mind shorthanded). But...at Taj I can go there anytime on Saturday and have many 10-20, 15-30 and 20-40 games to choose from. All that being said, they are relatively new and I think a VERY positive thing in AC poker. I will play in both rooms, but I like the game selection and action better at Taj so far.

Rock,
I know you have gotten many replies already - just wanted to add that the Taj, Showboat, and Resorts are all connected via various escalators and walkways. I played 6/12 at Borgata last Sunday, it was a great room and the game was soft.

$175 per night seems awfully expensive. Why not stay at the Borgata for $100 a night under the poker rate? If you end up going let me know, and maybe I'll come down one night and say hello.

Actually, it's $175 total for airfare and both nites, double-occupancy.

I'll definitely let you know if I go, I should know in a couple of weeks.

Thanks--

Oops, I misread the post. That's a sweet deal...

What airport would you fly into ?

Even if it is the AC Airport, you are still a distance from the casinos.

Even you need any other info, pm me....

Not sure, but the fee includes shuttle to & from the airport. I checked with my brother, if he's able to go then the trip should be a go.

You will probably fly right into the Atlantic City airport and take the shuttle bus. I doubt you will fly into the Philadelphia airport.

MG,

I just got back from AC a few days ago. I stayed at the Taj, but I agree with you, the Borgata is DEFINITELY the nicest card room in AC. IMO, they were after a "Bellagio" feel when they built this place, but they did better in the poker room. I played both rooms during my stay, and the Borgata was the best.

Rock, as far as the Resorts goes, it is next door to the Taj and usually spreads tons of games at any hour of the day. Good luck on your trip!

Thanks again for the replies. Upon further review, there's another trip that might work out better. It's 11/2 - 11/4 (Sun afternoon - Tue afternoon), staying at the Tropicana. Is this one close by the Taj or Borgata? They have poker at the Trop, is it worth playing there?

Thanks again--

The Trop is at the other end of the boardwalk.

The Borgata is in the "Marina" district.

Both are within driving distance.

The Trop poker room is lame, however they have a decent $4-$8 game. The Trop also runs the infamous "Pink" game. They use $2.50 pink Black Jack chips.

Well I'd better update my "poker terms", I thought all pink games used $7.50 chips.

The game is 7.50-15.00 but they use 2.50 chips. As for lame, I'm not sure what exactly that means. The pink game is wild, the 4-8 is easy but the room isn't so nice. I haven't been since the borgata opened so maybe they had a lot of defections.

Lame means.... but the room isn't so nice

I do not like the Trop room, even though I play there a few times a month.

I would not reccomend the Trop room. Some people feel differently, you can decide for yourself.

fair enough. The room is not nice and when they close tables for in the back area for the race book its pretty ugly (people and decor), but I really like the action there. I've never been a huge taj fan and still haven't popped my borgata cherry so as AC goes I liked the trop. It may be a dirty and full of low-lifes but its AC, I wouldn't expect anything less. /images/graemlins/grin.gif
