I have a class this semester that requires me to write one research paper. this is the focus of the entire class through december 10th (i love junior college sometimes).

anyway, i have to come up with topics, and one i thought would be a very interesting topic is 'The image of The Gambler in the folk, blues, and rock traditions in American Music'

I don't know if i will stick with this or not. but a key factor would be the amount of information i can find on this topic.

i was wondering if anybody might know of any good reference material (print or web) that could help me out here?

any help is greatly appreciated.

Great idea.

I have been leafing thru Hayano's book Poker Faces recently and in it he quotes from a number of musically refenences.

Deal by Tom Hall 1975
Kentucky Gambler by Dolly Parton
The Gambler by Don Schiltz

he may have others, and I am sure you will find many more.

thanks again for all the help. the topic won't be decided for sure until next wednesday. but i have a good idea that it will probably be this one, as long as it gets approved.

when i'm finished with it, i'll upload it to my space on a friend's server and post a link to it.

check out grateful dead lyrics-lots of gambler/cards lyrics, and in Amarillo Slim's book "amarillo slim in a world of fat people" he gives an account of his influence on Kenny Roger's song, "The Gambler".
