I'm playing 2-4 on Party/Empire and just witnessed the following conversation:

A: Most people think AA is the best hand. But it isn't. It's AKs.
B: Why's AKs so good?
A: Because it has more outs.
B: That makes sense.
A: What do you think of my theory?
B: Sounds good to me.

I think B was having as much fun as I was, but who really knows? In any case, I stayed out of it to leave everyone in their enlightened state.

Apparently player A read Super/System, b/c I believe Doyle Brunson likes playing AK over pockets Aces. In fact, the way it's worded in your conversation, that's almost what his point is in SS word for word.

Just did a PokerCalculator simulation...

AA vs 1xRandom_Hand: 85%
AA vs 4xRandom_Hand: 56%
AA vs 9xRandom_Hand: 31%

AKs vs 1xRandom_Hand: 67%
AKs vs 4xRandom_Hand: 35%
AKs vs 9xRandom_Hand: 21%

Trying to find the opposing argument here, so I'll have a stab that AK might win more money in nl than AA because when it connects it gets someone roped in with kicker problems, whereas AA might not get paid?

That's my attempt to argue the case, now back to playing AA only I'm afraid.

.... and I have just re-read the original post and it was a limit game.

Okay, now I give up.

While I'll take aces over AK anyday, I think twodimes doesn't follow from this idiot's rationale

His position is probably based on the same notion that someone once said JTs is the best hand - because in limit, you can't raise big to knock everyone out, so hands with big draws that hit will win a lot of money, while AA often is beat on the turn and river by two pair, trips or straights/flushes. But that assumes you stay to the river, and everyone stays also - which is the case at Low Limits...

Don't shoot the messenger...

That's just wrong.
Aces hold up a lot more than you may think. You have at least 50% chance against 3 opponents while getting 1 to 3 odds.

Just checked my records. AA has won 80 of the last 100 times I have had them.A small sample, yes, but I'd say that's pretty accurate for me at least.
Now AK...I don't keep track of that. I'm afraid of what the results might do to my stomach.
