poker is huge now, its been this way before (at least in l.a.) but unlike before the casinos are really raping people now on the rake, especially in the "trendy" new pot and NL games. I ask everyone to do as I have done and and start or frequent ONLY home games. I run 2 home games one low stakes one higher. I meet people in the low stakes game (.50/$1 blinds, pt limit) and if they are cool, I will introduce them to the bigger game ($5 & $5 pot limit) this way there are never any nere do wells or cheats in the bigger game. I play pretty much every day EXCLUSIVELY IN HOME GAMES. If you want to find a home game or 2 or 3 in your area here are 3 easy ways:

1. post on line
2. when you meet someone "normal" at the casino ask them if they know of any home games.
3. Ask dealers about home games, most dealers play in VERY live home games

The casinos are bullshit, power to the people!

I got to agree on the raping. $3 rake on $1-2 no limit. That is tough to overcome.
I'm going to try to do what you are doing in LA down here, just not as often.
