Does any one know where I can find some good quality poker chips similar to the ones used in Las Vegas? I don't like the cheap plastic ones sold at the local Walmart. I am thinking of just getting some real ones next time I am in Vegas, but I hate to spend that much money.

www.chipco.com (http://www.chipco.com)

Call them up and ask for a sample.

Also www.Pokerchips.com (http://www.Pokerchips.com) if you like the traditional clays.

Does anyone know were the So Cal casinos get their chips? The Bicycle club, Commerce Casino, and Hollywoodpark have an interesting injected plastice chip.

There are multiple sellers on Ebay as well for what seem like lower prices that the direct-sale sites. No idea on quality as I haven't had personal experience with either however.

There are several threads in the Home Poker Forum about this as well you may want to look at.

I have a sample of the dice chip. They are better quality than the 'blue light specials' at discount stores but ARE NOT clay as Ebay sellers represent them. Check this link for the straight info on these:

Thanks for the link CR. I've been thinking about getting some and this is useful info. They look like the same chips as many of the Ebay sellers (I imagine they all come from some 3rd party overseas supplier) but you are right about the misrepresentation. Is this the site you received your sample from?

I went through so many sites I can't remember /images/graemlins/confused.gif
but it came from a residential address in Las Vegas.

I've carried it in my pocket for a few months, it's worn pretty well against keys, change and such. It's also a good conversation starter as I'll roll it thru my fingers if I'm bored someplace.

I like the dice style of this type best because of the six side spots. I think they'd do fine for my purposes, particularly when I consider beer or something spilled on the table.

I've been running a constant '500 dice chips' search on Ebay and have noticed something interesting: you will not see a set go for less than $100. Ever. Many of the bidders are new or just changed identities. Methinks 5star et al are running a straw bidder deal here. I'm not looking to rape anybody for a set; but let's face it, I'm looking for steals on Ebay.

Since my buddies are busy losing their gambling $$$ on NFL football I'm having trouble getting a game together anyway /images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I bought a set from 5 Star on E-bay. You're right, he's absolutely shilling his auctions. Even funnier was what E-bay did when I reported it: "Dear Rams_law; We have thoroughly investigated your concerns about ..." I sh** you not. They were so thorough in their investigation that they forgot the seller they were investigating. [I]Caveal Emptor.

In addition to shilling his auctions, 5-star charges more for 'shipping and hangling' from E-bay than he does from his site, you have to pay the E-bay commission to get cheated, after all.

But, after the shilling and the S&H games, if you make a deal with the devil, the devil keeps his bargains. I just kept underbidding 5Star's web site price on every auction until one slipped past the goalie. The chips were what I expected, and they play well in my games.

One piece of advice if you buy the dice edge six-spots, do not mix blue and white in the same set. The blue have white spots, and the white have blue. When stacked they're hard to distinguish.

This webpage is super funny.

I like how the 3rd reason is "we asked the manufacturing people". Shouldn't that be the 1st thing they do?

Steps one and two would take about five minutes total. Step three would take considerably more time and effort, not to mention cost.

I figured it's a 5 minute international call or a 2 second email, but I could be wrong. I just thought it was funny.

I'm guessing finding the mfg. wouldn't be that easy. But then I'm thinking of Homer trying to find the maker of Mr. Sparkle.
