View Full Version : Two Non-Strategy Books

When I was in Las Vegas I stopped by the Gamblers Book Shop as I always try to do. I passed on the Carson book, but might get it someday. I picked up a couple of non-strategy books to read on airplanes. I bought the Cowboy Wolford book and kind of liked it. It costs too much for what it is and had some editing problems. It is rambling and disorganized, and it showed that the book was dictated by Wolford and re-done. A couple of weeks ago the book McGoorty was discusssed in a thread on non-strategy books, and is a good benchmark for this type of book. Byrne did a much better job getting McGoorty down on paper. But I liked the Wolford book for the entertainment value.

I also bought a book about the mob attorney (yeah, he hates that title but it's easy shorthand) Robert Simone. I am not done with it yet, but so far it is interesting. I like some of what he has to say about how he goes about doing cross examination, closing, and formulating trial strategy. But I'm a lawyer so maybe nobody else would be interested. There is some good tabloid type stuff in there to appeal to a general audience though.

what does a lawyer do in idaho...chase errant potato trucks????

?

Errant potato trucks cause a lot of damage. My wife's most recent jury trial was a truck with some kind of agricultural stuff (may have been sugar beets, I forget) that ran a stop sign and took out the truck driven by her client. She's the spud truck chaser, not me.

As for what lawyers do here, it's about the same as everywhere else, just with a slower pace. There are people here, and people work their way into all sorts of problems and do the worst imaginable stuff to each other. That keeps lawyers busy anywhere.

the problem for lawyers in the countryside is that they get paid in merchandise. hdpm i heard is trying to trade idaho potatoes for montana sheep. being a lawyer he is trying to trade even up by the number of eyes rather than by value.

Of course I'm trying to trade potatoes for sheep. But people have such an emotional attachment to their sheep that they won't trade. I mean, I'm thinking of starting an escort service not a slaughterhouse and they still won't trade.
