When I was in Las Vegas I stopped by the Gamblers Book Shop as I always try to do. I passed on the Carson book, but might get it someday. I picked up a couple of non-strategy books to read on airplanes. I bought the Cowboy Wolford book and kind of liked it. It costs too much for what it is and had some editing problems. It is rambling and disorganized, and it showed that the book was dictated by Wolford and re-done. A couple of weeks ago the book McGoorty was discusssed in a thread on non-strategy books, and is a good benchmark for this type of book. Byrne did a much better job getting McGoorty down on paper. But I liked the Wolford book for the entertainment value.
I also bought a book about the mob attorney (yeah, he hates that title but it's easy shorthand) Robert Simone. I am not done with it yet, but so far it is interesting. I like some of what he has to say about how he goes about doing cross examination, closing, and formulating trial strategy. But I'm a lawyer so maybe nobody else would be interested. There is some good tabloid type stuff in there to appeal to a general audience though.
