Anyone know of any good ones, I'll even settle for cheap and close...?

Groton is about 20 minutes away and is rather cheap. We stayed at the super8 last weekend for like 90 with a last minute reservation.

Good luck. You can get cheap + not close and you can get not cheap + close, but you'll have difficulty getting both. If you really need the room to be cheap, you're going to end up in New London/Groton/Mystic, about 20-25 minutes away from the casino.

Is Groton closer to the NY side or the Boston side?

Puke sorry, my first reply was compelely wrong, so it's NY Side. Groton is on Rt. 95 South West of Fox.

what about that one that's like 5 minutes down the road from the woods on Rt 2? i stayed there one time, it was like $60 a night with coupon.. but the coupons you can find anywhere, probably even in the lobby of the hotel in some pamphlet. i dont know the name but it's just down the road and even has a shuttle to and fro the casino every so often.. actually it might be a limo.. but it was cheap.

It's called the Hilltop, but I've never stayed there for less than $125 on the weekends.

speaking of foxwoods, are the limits of their craps table outrageous, or do they have a $5 table somewhere?

Yep, they almost always have at least one $5 craps table going.

I stayed at the Hilltop one Sunday night last month when the casino hotels were all booked up. Although the front desk wanted $125 when I called the Friday before, I got the room for approx. $80 by prebuying online via a regional room reseller that was similar to Hotels.com. I can't remember the name of the website--try searching google for "Foxwoods hotels"
