Not sure what the total duration (time) was...but I'll guess 5 hrs.

2+2 - Limit Tournament Stats:

Approximate hands dealt: 200O

Hands that included a preflop raise: 1950

Flops seen: 999

Avg number of players per flop: 2.25

Quote of tounament (or at least at my table):

After a full orbit of open-raises, no calls, blind folds; the next hand, someone finally calls and vehn says, "WTF are those cards doing in the middle!"

I nearly spit the sip of beer I had in my mouth on my keyboard, I burst with laughter so hard.

Thank you for a good time, I learned much and enjoyed every minute.

Congrats to Myrtle and thanks to Simon.

Peace,
Larry Joe

Congratulations Myrtle for a great victory, and thank you all for a really enjoyable tournament.
I'll be looking forward to the next one, especially if it is NL this time, then I'll be knowing what I am doing /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Classic.

It was a great tourney, with my limited limit ability I enjoyed the long blind levels. I'll try to improve on my poor showing in Kotz VI /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well done Myrtle and the other two cashees.

Thanks again, Simon. Good show as usual. I will now try to purge myself of the following two bad thoughts that led to my demise.

1. Blind vs. blind "hmmm. I guess he does have a flush, but what are the odds it's bigger than mine."

2. "No way he played the *nut* flush like that. My flush has to be good."

Yeah, right. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Congrats to all the money winners and the new KotZ title holder Myrtle. A special mention goes to Lorinda who continues to cash whenever she plays these things.

Zoo events are always fun, and it has been a real shame to miss this one. If work commitments continue, I'll have to continue to give them a miss. But such is life, and I think I would have been entering quite a -EV situation by playing a LHE tourney with you guys.

If I can go nearly 12 rounds with these guys, surely anyone can!

Seriously though, it was one of the toughest 3 and a bit hours of poker I have ever played (not to mention the first 3 and a bit hours since my last comp - KotZ II in June /images/graemlins/crazy.gif).

It's good to be back and kotzing again /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Too true. BTW Simon, have you got your abacus out and computed the KotZ rankings? It will be interesting to see the standings after three tournies.

After a quick glance over the standings after two, it seems Lorinda will be quite a bit ahead of the pack. Myrtle will be right up there I think.

Simon,

Although I didn't play as my LHE skills are right up there with my skills in Neurosurgery I wanted to thank you for the time you take in setting up these KOTZ tournies. Hopefully I will be there for the next KOTZ if it is NL as my skills are right up there with my skills in International Diplomacy and World Finance. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

You are correct, I thought I played like crap /images/graemlins/wink.gif But playing stupid-aggressive is always fun, huh? Everyone else played good, though!

You'll be happy to know larry that I busted out in spectacular fashion, and the way I usually bust out of tournaments, which is colliding with a set with top two. But this time it wasn't a suckout /images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good tourny, I had a good time. If you do a limit one again (which I actually enjoyed a lot despite having almost no experience with) may I suggest 20 minute blinds? Heh.

I'll show up for the next one if I don't go broke.

Thanks simon, much appreciated. It's interesting that the top three are the three KotZ winners, because I thought the ranking system you use would be a bigger advantage to the players who simply put in consistant performances. But I guess 1000 points really rockets you up the ladder.

Ro-me-ro
09-05-2003, 10:29 AM
How about having an additional amount (say $2 bux a comp per person) that goes into a prize fund for the top X players after 1 year.

Makes the rankings a bit more interesting?

You could get stars to look after the extra $2 and not pay it into the prizefund a kinda $30 + 2 + 2 entry.

Flame away guys

Extra stats just for you dux - the top three have all made 2 or more finals.

Lori - 1 win, 3 finals
Havanabanana - 1 win, 2 finals
Myrtle - 1 win, 2 finals

That may explain their margin to the rest of the pack.

Simon

Is prestige not enough these days! /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I don't actually believe such a reward system would be wise - Players who are new to the comps would be contributing $2 to something which they are unlikely to win.

Thanks for the suggestion all the same.

This may look like an idea to have another list to put me top, but it isn't intended that way.

With people playing differing numbers of games I think an average score list might be needed.

To qualify for that list you would only need to have played half of the tourneys to get on the board and might represent more accurately how people are doing.

Just a thought ,

Although this may sound like an attempt to preserve my (very tenuous) spot in the Top 10, I think if you do rank by average you must also rank separately by total. The logic is that ranking only by average rewards people for ducking their weakest event.

That is the whole point of cumulative rankings, to encourage people to play each event. I can facilitate an average list, but the official rankings will be the cumulative list.

Thanks Simon it was a fun tourney. I actually thought the 30 minute blinds were a nice switch from the usual Internet 10 to 12 minute blind games I routinely play. Although I can not always commit to 4+ hours for a tournament this game played much like a live tournament. My only downfall was going up against Moby with my AQ and 2 aces on the board. After that is was survival mode all the way /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hi all….Sorry it took me so long to respond…..It was 2am (my time) by the time the tournament finished……I was up @ 6am & going like hell @ work all day today……

To respond to the various comments made in the string………..

Havanabanana……..Ty for compliment, but truth is, it was a bit of both. In the spirit of sharing what may be potentially damaging info, below are my stats from the game.

You finished in 1st place (eliminated at hand #111299705)

588 hands played and saw flop:
- 45 times out of 141 while in small blind (31%)
- 62 times out of 141 while in big blind (43%)
- 53 times out of 306 in other positions (17%)
- a total of 160 times out of 588 (27%)

Pots won at showdown - 38 out of 65 (58%)
Pots won without showdown - 131

For what it’s worth, I was well below 20% “flops seen” for the 1st ¾ of the tournament (premium hands in position, very aggressive when I felt I was ahead). As we got down to final 15 or so, I switched gears and went into aggressive/steal mode, as it appeared to me that the table I was at tightened up significantly as we were approaching the final table.

Then at final table, I geared up again, as I felt that the only way that I could accumulate enough chips to win the tournament was to take that path. My thinking at the time was “if I’m going to make an error, it will be one of over-aggression”…….

There’s no doubt that I hit some key hands at the right time to help me out!

As far as the chop? We were down to 3 players…..s1000 (to my left) had been killing me all night, and Moby Dick was no walk in the park either. Our chip counts were about 20k, 19k & 18k. A straight even chop seemed like a no-brainer to me, given that my perception at the time was that the skill level of the remaining 3 players was pretty equal, and it would more than likely turn into a crap-shoot. Being the bottom line so & so that I am, I’d just as soon as lock up above 2nd place $$ under those situations.

The thing that I found interesting is that I felt that all 3 of us played just as hard (if not even tougher!) for the odd 12 bucks and the title. Once we got H/U, I was down about 4:1 in chips, and simply went bonkers. Aggressiveness was sure rewarded in my particular case, as my bluffs were working more than 2/3 of the time, and I managed to flop a few big hands to some fairly odd holdings. Had I been s1000, I would have been very discouraged.

FL tournaments are complex animals. It seems virtually everything has to fall into place to win one. You need the right cards at the right time. Your reads on your opponents must be solid. And, you need the poker gods to smile on you when U screw up. All that happened last night, and I was the fortunate one.

The competition was fierce! I thought I was a goner early on. It lasted 5 hours, and I was exhausted at the end.

I enjoyed the hell out of the whole experience, and am looking forward to the next one. You guys are all tough, and it sure as hell keeps me on my toes!

Thanks Simon for putting it together again……looking very much forward to the next one….

Ask anyone who reached the final table how tough the comp was. On second thoughts, don't bother because you are unlikely to comprehend their answers.
