The Danish welfare state is completely different to the US, in fact they couldn't be further apart.
Heaviest resistance to the EU is coming from the Scandinavian countries, Denmark especially. This is the reason for the rise of the far right in Europe generally. The immigration issue is secondary. Sept 11 gave the far right a big boost and that put the immigration issue in the spotlight.
Personally I think this whole immigration issue both here and in Europe is phoney.
Integrated Immigrants tend to open businesses and are generally successful here in the US.
Yes, immigrants are a threat, not to Danish culture but the welfare state. They are opposed to it. They are looking for opportunity, not to live off the system. That's been my experience with immigrants here in the US.
You're confusing integration with assimilation.
The former allows the immigrant to retain his own identity and culture while becoming a productive member of society whereas the latter would require him to change and become part of the Danish culture .
Concerning crime. Denmark is the safest country in Europe. Most professional police force in the world and best criminal justice system.
