The way he played his hand it looks to me like he has an overpair to the flop or possibly 65s. I can't see him folded a better hand in this huge pot for one more bet and frankly there aren't many worse hands he could call with so I vote check. He would probably be happy to check back a hand like 99.

There are only 23 Big bets in the pot. When the player called the last bet, there were 22. If he thought that he had a reasonable chance of winning, he should probably have raised, to maybe get the maniac out of this monster pot.

I can't believe that he would lay down a hand that you beat here, but I don't think that he would be making a mistake to call with pocket 5s or 6s. It is also possible that your opponent limped in with 65, 75, 76 suited, and after he got trapped for all of those bets preflop, he had to keep calling for the size of the pot. If he did, and he laid his hand down to your bet, at least you didn't have to show down this hand, which may or may not have some value.

If you check, you will probably be facing a bet, and you are certainly going to call, so if you win, your hand will be shown down, and if you lose, you will have to show that you put in that much action with a hand that couldn't beat his. I think it is better to bet, and allow your opponent to fold, and keep both of your hands secret.

Besides, at this point, you already put 5 big bets in this pot, what's another one?

I use you as my inspiration for many a thin river value bet but I think you crossed the line here. The pot is huge so he won't lay down middle pairs. He may pay you off with 55,66, any 4 but I don't think you can get him to lay down a better hand of which there are many.

In what appears to be a minority opinion, it sure looks like he's got 88, 99, or TT and doesn't like it. Combine that with two-overcards and the reasonable player who almost certainly has a big pair means he IS going to fold.

Also, if he DOES have a small pair he is going to call often.

Good bet, even if you don't know whether you are bluffing or betting for value: Hey, you are doing both.

But the main principle is this: its a huge pot and you are in doubt. Bet it out.

OK, so he's got 6c5c and you got rivered. But he STILL didn't like it enough to raise.

I figured he would put in more action at some point with a better overpair for sure. That really leaves either a draw or something worse than me with showdown value like A3s. Anyways he mucked and I had the pleasure of mucking face down and receiving an almost 2 rack pot. He later bugged me for what I had and this time I told him the truth, and he said he had pocket 5s. Meh.
