bank error

I love my online banking. I used to pay lots of late fees just because I was too disorganized and lazy to sit down and write a bunch of checks and lick stamps and go to the post office. No longer. with a few clicks of the mouse I'm all square with the various entities need my money every month.


went to check pay my insurance bill today. Lo and behold there was a mysterious deposit of $5900 in my account last Tuesday. woohooo!!!


I know the "right" thing to do is go down to my local branch office and inform them of the error. If the person who deposited the money lost their receipt I think the bank would have a very difficult time tracing to my account. I have to admit I'm pretty tempted to just not say anything.

I remember the days when a bank error in your favor was only worth $200.

$5900 now is only worth about what $200 was then.
