Hello all-

I will be making my first trip to vegas this month and will arrive on a Saturday night at about 11pm. I have already booked a hotel room on the strip for sunday-thurday but am looking for a place to crash Saturday night. I know that arriving at a hotel in vegas on a Sat. is a big no-no but hey i got a really cheap flight. Anyway, i was wondering if anyone knows if binions has a poker room rate and if they offer it just for Saturday night stay. I called the poker room and she said that i would have to book the room first and then go to the poker room to get the rate but she said she had no idea what it was. Id also be curious if anyone else has arrived and found a cheap place to stay just for a Saturday night. Worst case senario ill stay up to check-in on sunday but hopefully it wont come to that. thanks in advance for you help!!!

Binions isn't going to casino or poker rate your room for just one Saturday but on the other hand if they have openings their rates can be very good (around $60). You might be better off looking a little off the strip for your Saturday - Try Palace Station, or The Plaza (downtown)

Thanks SDP....you always have some useful information for me. I checked out rates for a couple of the places downtown and got a rate of $29 at the gold spike and $39 at the cortez. You have any advice on which one might be nicer? .....im guessing there will bed bugs at both places ;-)

Never stayed at either, so can't help there. One last thought - see if the Boardwalk has anything - (next to the Bellagio) They can be very inexpensive.

SDP

Im staying at Boardwalk sunday-thursday for $40 a night. They want something like $200 just for Saturday night so thats why i was looking downtown. I think that either of the 2 aforementioned will suit me just fine. Im sure ill only be in there for a nap and a shower anyway. Thanks again for your help.

the gold spike is on par with any cheapo no-name motel you'll find anywhere, with room amenities that range from anywhere to strange stains to cigarette burns. it's fine you just want to throw your luggage and maybe crash for a few hours.

the el cortez is probably nicer... not sure how much though.

Check out the Lady Luck, its a pretty nice place, I stayed there for a week for only $150...it was like $13 a night on weeknights and $25 for weekends. Its within walking distance of Binions and like a said, its a Nice place...not the Bellagio or anything but no roaches/prostitutes/bums/or theifs, and the rooms were pretty good too.

if you sign up for their players card you can get pretty good comps too.

I hope you are driving a car. The cab fair alone from the airport to downtown and then back uptown the next day can be the cost a room. I like the downtown area(anywhere on the freemont experience) but not the cortez. You could also try out the Westward-Ho they are usually cheap but clean.

First time in Vegas? Not getting in until 11 PM on Saturday night?

My first time in Vegas I didn't sleep until Day 3. You'll be okay.

It may be a good idea not to play any cards until after you've slept a little, but there are plenty of other things to do. Even just walking around the strip, having a few cocktails, checking out the pokerrooms at Bellagio and Mirage, etc should get you thru the night.

This only applies if you are under 30 years old. If you are older, you may need your sleep (and a warm glass of milk).

I would recommend lady luck I stay there pretty often (Girlfriend works for firm that does there advertising). Also as far as transportation before you jump in a cab look for a bored limo driver they will normally take u for the same as a cab, or most there are a couple of shuttle companies that will take you for lik $5 or $6 pretty good deals on probleme is they stop at several hotels.

Thanks all for your help. Ive reserved a room at binions for 75 a night with tax through travelaxe...check that program out...its great. Hopefully they will kick some of that back with a poker room rate? As for the getting to and from the airpot i just might get a rental car...they are so cheap and i plan to go to hoover dam so it will be well worth it. Ill be sure to post a trip report when i get back. Thanks again for all your help!!!

www.cheapovegas.com (http://www.cheapovegas.com)

It's been mentioned on this site many times, but always worth throwing in again.

Rent from Alamo. Their intermediate cars run about $24 and are decent, if you can get an Alero it will have a CD player.

(When were you planning on visiting Las Vegas ? I can send over your Truepoker hat to Binions or the Boardwalk, lol.)
